With deep roots in American Indian culture and history, Anadarko, Oklahoma is often billed as the "Indian Capital of the Nation." Seven tribes make their home within a 30-mile radius, and powerful powwows, dances and colorful native arts and crafts are all part of the ongoing and vibrant cultural life in town. The Southern Plains Indian Museum, offers contemporary American Indian art created by emerging native artists, and a gift shop featuring authentic Indian-made gifts. And don't miss the 16 Indian murals by internationally known artist Stephen Mopope, one of the "Kiowa Five," adorning the Anadarko Post Office.
