Nestled among mesas formed by ancient lava flows, the only town in Oklahoma on Mountain Standard Time is a Kenton, Oklahoma, a tenacious resident of the state's outback. Tour the Kenton Museum, the oldest building in the hamlet, built of native rock in 1902 and housing No Man’s Land artifacts. Or, take a hike up Black Mesa, Oklahoma's highest point at 4,973 feet; the trail head is east of Kenton at the Black Mesa Nature Preserve. For pure Jurassic pleasure, don't miss the dinosaur tracks just a hop and a skip down the road in a dry creek bed.
