The Talimena National Scenic Byway runs through the Ouachita National Forest, which consists of nearly 2 million acres of scenic natural beauty. In addition to driving through, visitors can get off the highway and enjoy the forest. There are more than 700 miles of trails in the forest for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and off-road vehicles. Primitive camping opportunities can help keep you on the trail overnight. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, even for one of Oklahoma's shyest creatures - the black bear.
