Cotton County, named after the area’s largest crop, formed in 1912 and was the last county created in Oklahoma. Oil and gas production was a boom for the county in the early 1900s, though agriculture became a major industry after it was settled. The Enid and Anadarko Railway and the Wichita Falls and Northwestern Railway were early transportation routes in the area. The Cotton County Museum in Walters showcases artifacts from the community including photos, military items and artwork. Comanche history comes alive at the annual Comanche Homecoming Powwow, featuring traditional dancing, food and other activities.
