Located in northwestern Oklahoma, Blaine County was named after James G. Blaine, former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Built in 1906, the county courthouse is located in Watonga, the county seat. In the early 1900s, railroad lines were built in the area and included the Enid and Anadarko Railway, the Blackwell, Enid and Southwestern Railroad, and the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway. Gypsum mining has long been a major industry in Blaine County, and the first gypsum mill in Oklahoma Territory was located here. Visitors to Blaine County enjoy Roman Nose State Park, the Canadian Rivers Historical Museum and the annual Watonga Cheese Festival.
