Canadian County, named after the wide Canadian River that flows across the county, is home to the historic Chisholm Trail, Fort Reno and sections of Route 66. El Reno is the county seat of Canadian County and the courthouse was constructed in the mid-1960s. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, railroads were constructed across Canadian County and El Reno became a central hub of the area's railroad transportation.
