Established in 1907 at statehood, Creek County is named after the Creek tribe. The county courthouse, located in Sapulpa "the Heart of Historic Route 66," was built in 1914. The Atlantic and Pacific Railroad, built in 1886, and the St. Louis and Oklahoma City Railroad, built in 1898, were the main transportation options in Creek County at the beginning of the 20th century. Railroad history and the history of Bristow, yet another Route 66 stop in Creek County, can be explored at the Bristow Historical Museum, Depot & Town Square. Visitors to Creek County will also enjoy visits to the Sapulpa Historical Museum, Waite Phillips Filling Station Museum and the Drumright Historical Museum.
