Discoveryland! is the national home of the stage production Oklahoma!

You have most likely heard of famous Broadway musicals such as Cats, Rent or even Hairspray, but nothing can compare to the classic OKLAHOMA! Rodgers and Hammerstein’s OKLAHOMA! , performed at Discoveryland!; it knocks all other musicals out of the water. Discoveryland!, located ten miles west of Tulsa, brings this musical to life in their beautiful 1,500-seat amphitheater complete with the best talent you could ever ask to see in a musical performance.

The Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department team arrived at about 6:30 p.m. and were welcomed with the wonderful perks of the all-inclusive Gold Package. The package included the pre-show and show, plus a delicious ranch dinner and several treats from the concession stands. Guests may choose between a ribeye steak or chopped beef sandwich with onions and peppers. Home-cooked potato salad, baked beans and dessert round out the meal. For dessert, I decided on the mudslide, a big moist brownie ala mode with chocolate syrup. The Gold Package also included a ticket for popcorn and a choice between a snow cone or drink. The food was phenomenal and made the whole experience top notch.

If you are searching for a truly spectacular musical experience, you cannot go wrong with Discoveryland!'s OKLAHOMA!

After a belly full of goodies, the pre-show started and I had no idea what I was in store for. We were told that each member of the cast auditioned along with 2,000 other hopefuls, and in my opinion, the performers definitely earned their spot in the musical. The show started with a Western Musical Revue and featured a variety of talented dancers. They did a roll call by state for the audience and we were surprised to learn that people had come from everywhere to see OKLAHOMA!. We sat near the top of the amphitheater to get a better view of the show.

After the pre-show, I found myself anxious for the start of the musical. I watched as the performers tapped, sang and danced. Every scene seemed to get better and better as the night went on, and we all hated to see it end. There were dynamic fight sequences, horse drawn carriages and even can-can dancers, as well as graceful ballet. The whole musical was simply amazing. Richard Rodgers, composer of this wonderful musical once noted, “I have always believed Oklahoma was a wonderful state and this musical is just another great addition to its magnificence.” The night ended with a finale of beautiful voices perfectly blended together with a standing ovation from the audience. If you are searching for a truly spectacular musical experience, you cannot go wrong with Discoveryland!’s OKLAHOMA!
