A unique collection of over 40 antique windmills in western Oklahoma.

Located in northwestern Oklahoma, Ellis County formed in 1907 at statehood and was named after Albert H. Ellis, a member of Oklahoma’s 1906 Constitutional Convention.  In the late 1800s, part of the county served as a transportation route for the military as well as civilians.  The Southern Kansas Railway, built in Ellis County from 1886 to 1887, cut across the county and went into Texas.  The Shattuck Windmill Museum and Park showcases rare and restored windmills from 1870 to 1970.  Lake Vincent near Arnett offers fishing and picnic areas.

In 2000, census records showed 4,075 people living in Ellis County.  Countless assets exist for tracing genealogy in Ellis County including legal records and cemetery records.  Valuable resources for researching genealogy in Ellis County are provided below, including a list of existing towns, a list of ghost towns, the county courthouse address, a detailed map of the county, a list of cemeteries located within the county, library information and online newspaper archives.  A list of places to visit in Ellis County is also provided for visitors to the area.
