Named after President Thomas Jefferson and located in south-central Oklahoma, Jefferson County was formed in 1907. Early travel routes through the county included the Great Spanish Road and the Chisholm Trail. Railroads were built in Jefferson County starting in the late 1800s. In Waurika, the Rock Island Depot, built in 1912, has been restored and now holds railroad memorabilia and historical artifacts from the town. Waurika Lake offers visitors campsites, trails, water sports, fishing and more.
