Located in far southeastern Oklahoma, this community of 7,000 enjoys year-round visitors from nearby Beavers Bend Resort Park. Other attractions include the newly expanded Museum of the Red River with one of the finest Native American collections in the United States, and the historic Barnes-Stevenson House, shown by appointment only. Visitors can also view Albert Frazier's private collection of Gene Autry and Roy Rogers memorabilia, also shown by appointment only, tour the historic Wheelock Academy in nearby Millerton, or try their hand at high stakes bingo at the Choctaw Gaming Center. Outdoor sites to explore include an 18 hole golf course, and a driving tour that includes four giant murals, nine state champion trees, dogwood trails in the spring and numerous historical markers. Annual events in Idabel feature the Spring Livestock Show and Sale in March, Dogwood Days the first Friday and Saturday in April, a gigantic July 4th fireworks display, the McCurtain County Free Fair in September, FallFest the first Saturday in October, and the beautiful "City of Lights" Christmas Parade in December. The Idabel Regional Arts Council sponsors outstanding theatrical performances and visual arts exhibits in Idabel and McCurtain County throughout the year.
