If you love history, art and tales from the Old West, a stop at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center in Duncan is a must.

Enjoy an introduction to the center with “The Chisholm Trail Experience” in the 4D theater. Viewers will feel the rumble of a thunderstorm and a longhorn stampede. A stop in the Campfire Theater lets you listen to animatronics Jesse Chisholm and Tex as they share the story of how the Chisholm Trail name originated.

Try your roping skills as you sit in a leather saddle and attempt to rope "Hollywood" the longhorn steer in the interactive area. Step back in time in the Duncan General Store and play a game of checkers, and explore the past of cowboy life on the Great Plains. A collection of American Western art in the Garis Gallery of the American West features historic artwork by legendary cowboy artists - George Catlin, Frederic Remington, Charles Russell, Charles Livingston Bull, John Coleman and Paul Moore.

Don't miss the "On the Chisholm Trail" bronze monument, a life-size tribute to the American cowboy and cattle drive. This exhibit sits on the exterior grounds, south of the covered portico and was created by Oklahoma artist/sculptor, Paul Moore. Take a walk along the Chisholm Trail path outside and learn the history of the trail.

Be sure to visit the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center gift shop to pick up one-of-a-kind western items, souvenirs, home décor, a variety of books, T-shirts and more, all perfect for gift giving. Popular items include Buffalo Poop mints, scorpion suckers, Bedre chocolate and Oklahoma buffalo jerky.
