Known as the “Magnolia Capital of Oklahoma,” Durant has everything from downtown shopping to outdoor adventures. Settled by a family of French-Choctaw origin, Durant boasts a unique combination of small-town charm and a highly celebrated Native American heritage in southern Oklahoma. At nearby Lake Texoma State Park, visitors will relish endless opportunities for nature exploration. Go camping, cast a line on the lake or enjoy hunting for whitetail deer, bobwhite quail, mourning dove, ducks and geese.

If you’re seeking a more refined getaway, head to the Choctaw Casino Resort. This world-class resort has a concert venue that brings some of the biggest names in entertainment to Durant. There’s endless fun to be had at the casino’s tables, and the resort also ensures a one-of-a-kind getaway with nearly a dozen dining options, a spa, luxury hotel and a beautiful water park with Jacuzzis, streams for floating and a covered cabana that’s accessible without ever leaving the water.

Fort Washita Historic Site & Museum is a notable attraction as it gives visitors a glimpse into Oklahoma’s diverse history. The fort operated in the 1800s to protect Chickasaw and Choctaw Tribes and later served as a major supply depot for Confederate troops in Indian Territory. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, head to George’s Drive-In, where generations of natives have gone to get their burger fix. The old-fashioned diner specializes in big flavors that have been presented the same way for decades.
