It was one of the wealthiest African-American communities in the U.S. before a race riot in 1921 brought disaster and left much of the area in ashes. At the Greenwood Cultural Center we will see historic photos from before and after the riot and displays that preserve Tulsa’s African-American heritage (allow 45 minutes). Next to the Cultural Center is the Mabel B. Little Heritage House, a two-story brick home built in the 1920s that gives insight into life in the Greenwood District prior to the riot (allow 45 minutes). Then we head to Garden Deva, a gallery and workshop of Lisa Regan, who has been sculpting metal for almost 20 years. Her work can be seen in Tulsa’s schools, libraries, restaurants, and in many boutiques and garden centers across the country (allow 1 hour).
