Holiday 2008

You may wrap up the gifts, but don’t wrap up the holidays without dashing through the snow – or any other kind of weather – to enjoy an Oklahoma holiday event or festival.

Pile in the car with the family or a few friends and make a night out of enjoying the lights. There are brilliant shows throughout the state, so get in the spirit and see a few! Or lace up the skates and give your twirls a whirl at the ice rink in downtown Oklahoma City. There’s plenty of cheer – and you can find the whole list here:

Fantasy Land of Lights

Fantasies of festivity become reality at this drive-through light show throughout Johnstone Park. Animated displays and thousands of displays set to music set the tone for a very merry excursion. Donations accepted at the Gingerbread House.

Festival of Light
Take in the wonder of 43 acres coming to life – in lights! More than three million of them turn this city park absolutely sparkly. Walk or drive through and enjoy concessions, carriage rides, shopping … and a personal appearance by the jolly old soul himself!

Festival of Angels

Bright lights, big city: In Ponca City, the holiday spirit is citywide! Colorful lighted exhibits, complete with angels and animated displays, welcome you to meander through the merriment at three locations across the city. Worth the drive!

Kingfisher in Lights
The big fun starts with the miniature train ride! Ramble through a wonderland of displays that illuminates Kingfisher Park with more than two million (yes, two million!) sparkling lights. The famous 100-year-old swinging bridge features more than 90,000 lights alone!

Christmas Kingdom
The holiday spirit is in the air – quite literally! More than 1,000 inflatables make this holiday display a breath of fresh air. Enjoy the bright and brilliant show from the comfort of your own sleigh … er, car.

Territorial Christmas Celebration
Only in Downtown Oklahoma City can you experience the thrill of outdoor ice skating, exhilerating snow tubing rides down the nation's largest manmade slope, water taxi excursions along the winding Bricktown Canal, a magically-lit botanical garden, a spirited 5K run through Downtown, Museum Sundays and plenty of holiday cheer for the entire family!

The Christmas Train
Build up some steam for the holiday season as an old-fashioned steam engine and horse-drawn wagons roll back in time to the 1880s town of Dry Gulch, U.S.A. Visit Santa’s Village, feast on holiday fare and pick up a few holiday goodies from local gift shops, toy stores and boutiques. It’s time for some choo-choo-cheer! Advance ticket purchase required.

Woolaoc Wonderland of Lights
Woolaroc rocks! More than 650,000 lights illuminate the way and turn this rustic ranchland into a winter wonderland. Drive or walk through and take time for a carriage ride, shopping, snacks and a possible encounter with a particularly jolly man in a big red suit!
(918) 336-0307
The original state capital turns jolly with a capital J! Guthrie’s month-long celebration kicks off every year just after Thanksgiving, featuring a variety of festivities. Many come just for the Victorian Walk – when the town steps back in time and local citizens dress in Victorian attire, walking the beautifully lit streets greeting guests and visitors.

Opening Night 2009
Tired of the Auld Lang same-ol‘, same-ol‘? Give Opening Night a try! Opening Night is Oklahoma City’s favorite family-oriented New Year’s Eve celebration, with more than 40 performers keeping the revelry rockin‘ throughout the downtown area. Kids activities will keep the little ones entertained, then everyone will have a blast ringing in the new year with a bang at the fireworks finale!
