Visit Chapel Creek Winery, located on the Redlands Community College Darlington facility in El Reno, to tour the old Spanish-style chapel and wine-making facility. The historic Darlington Agency building, which sits adjacent to the chapel, served the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes in the 1860s and later became a three-story boys' dormitory run by the Masons in 1909. The chapel, built in 1913 by the Order of the Eastern Star, became a place for religious services and a home for orphans in the historic settlement of Darlington.
Today, although both structures are vacant, the chapel and dormitory serve as trademark symbols for the wines that are produced here. The Redlands Darlington campus includes a vineyard, wine research lab, working goat dairy and other facilities. Goat milk is transformed into gourmet cheeses, while the vineyards produce grapes that yield fine wines. Chapel Creek Winery specializes in Oklahoma Merlot, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and a special concoction known as Reno City Red, as well as wines from Sand Hills Vineyard & Winery, formerly of Geary. Group tours are available.
