Make your way to Watonga for Race the Rail, an event that invites cycling enthusiasts to race the AT&L train from Watonga to Geary and back. The AT&L track speed is approximately ten miles per hour, and Highway 270/281 runs parallel to the tracks between Geary and Watonga. Since the AT&L features a slow track speed, the race is organized so that an AT&L engine will leave Geary at the same time the riders leave Watonga. Hence, Race the Rail. Bring your bicycle and helmet and try to race the AT&L on its way back into town.

The 32.5 mile Race the Rail course is an asphalt highway, in good condition with wide shoulders. Rumble strips exist for most of the route, but wide shoulders will allow riders plenty of room. Water and snacks will be provided to riders before, during and after the event. Support and gear vehicles will be present during the event until noon.

Race the Rail is held in conjunction with the Watonga Cheese Festival. Riders can visit the festival following the ride and try locally-produced cheeses as well as wines from vineyards across Oklahoma.
