Patrick Lynch Public Library in Poteau contains a genealogy section with many resources. Many early Le Flore County courthouse records and newspapers from the area are available on microfilm, as well as census records from 1900-1920. Other records available in the library include all Le Flore County school records from the early 1920s to present, Choctaw Nation marriage records from 1890-1907, service records from both World War I and II and Oklahoma land transactions from 1901-1907.

The Genealogy Department of Patrick Lynch Public Library offers volunteer assistance and online resources to make research a bit easier. Ancestry and Heritage Quest, both subscription websites, are offered free of charge at the library. For a fee, the Poteau Valley Genealogy Society will do research in the library and complete family charts. Genealogy meetings are open to the public and are held in the library at 7pm on the fourth Thursday of each month.
