The annual Tour de Meers bike ride has become a beloved tradition in the small rural community of Meers, located just north of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Bicyclists can choose routes of varying lengths depending on if they want to ride 10, 22, 36, 57 or 62 miles. The longer routes go through the wildlife preserve, where riders can see bison, longhorns, elk, birds and several other species up close.

Mount Scott, Mount Sheridan, Tahbone Mountain, Mount Wall and Saddle Mountain loom in the background of the tour, offering incredible views. Spring wildflowers blanket the foothills and meadows, adding a brilliant splash of color to the rocky surroundings. The 10-mile and 36-mile routes follow the foothills by the wind farm and the scenic north face of the Wichita Mountains. The 22-mile trip also takes riders through the quaint cobblestone town of Medicine Park before crossing between Lakes Lawtonka and Elmer Thomas.

Tour de Meers, one of the region's oldest and most successful bike rides, is a must-ride for cyclists looking to pedal through a national wildlife refuge, a wind farm and the historic town of Medicine Park, which holds a music festival the same weekend. Several rest stops are provided along the way, ham radio SAG wagons follow each route, and both EMT and hospital ambulance stand duty during the ride. Primitive camping is provided. This ride is not a race, so remember to linger and take in the breathtaking natural beauty along the way.
