Tulsa Chautauqua: The Great West: Cowboys & Cattle Trails
Jun 06, 2017 to Jun 10, 2017
2445 S Peoria Ave
In celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Chisholm Trail trade route, Tulsa Chautauqua is honoring The Great West: Cowboys & Cattle Trails. Come to Tulsa Chautauqua, held under a large tent on the beautiful grounds of the Tulsa Historical Society & Museum, to explore trail life in the West and glimpse both the struggles and the triumphs of those living in that time. Each night, a different scholar gives a presentation in character followed by a Q&A session from the audience, first in character, then as a scholar.
Tuesday, June 6: Jesse Chisholm by Michael Hughes
Wednesday, June 7: Thaddeus Dunkley by Jim Armstead
Thursday, June 8: Bettie Matthews Reynolds by Sally Drucker
Friday, June 9: Johanna July by Vanessa Adams-Harris
Saturday, June 10: "Hanging Judge" Isaac Parker by Doug Mishler
During the day, there are two workshops held inside the Historical Society exploring the West in more depth. Each workshop will be led by a different scholar about a topic pertaining to either his character or some facet of the historical time frame of his character.
This event is free and open to all ages. Attendees are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs (folding chairs are provided) and a picnic dinner that they can enjoy on the lawn before the performance. Water is available for sale. Make an evening of it and enjoy the ambiance of a summer night under the tent while learning about a fascinating time in history on the 150 year anniversary of the Chisholm Trail.
