The Belle Starr Loop Trail is a moderate-to-strenuous trail that is two miles long and will take approximately 1.5 hours to complete. The Coon Ridge Trail is 1.83 miles in length and will take roughly the same amount of time to complete. Be sure to bring your binoculars, a camera, water and appropriate dress for a cool-weather hike for maximum enjoyment, and prep beforehand with hot chocolate, coffee, water and trail mix. Immediately after the hike, there will be hotdogs, cornbread and black-eyed peas for lunch.

There will also be a drawing for two free hiking sticks with a Robbers Cave hiking medallion. (The drawing is open for First Day Hike participants only.) The First Day Hayride begins at 12pm and will leave from the parking lot of the Belle Starr View Lodge. The cost is $4 per person, and free for children under the age of five.

This event is in conjunction with the America's State Parks First Day Hikes initiative that will take place in all 50 states. The First Day Hikes offer individuals and families an opportunity to begin the New Year rejuvenating and connecting with the outdoors by taking a healthy hike on the first day of the new year.

Note: Children must be carefully supervised along the Mountain Trail due to high elevation and cliffs.
