First Day Hike at Foss State Park
12/29/14: First Day Hike Update: Instead of actually hiking the trails, the park will host a very short hike on the asphalt from the Cottonwood Campground entrance around to the Circle/Cedar Point area then back to the starting point at Cottonwood. Please meet at the park office by 9:30am. Due to the forecast of very cold temperatures, that park feels it's best for the health and safety of guests. In the event of any moisture having already fallen or that is falling at the time of the hike, the park will cancel the hike altogether.
Mark your calendar for a visit to Foss State Park on January 1 for a free guided hike. Meet us at the park office and choose from three different hikes that have varying degrees of difficulty. The first starts at 6:30am and goes from the Panther Creek Trail to Cottonwood. The second hike starts at 8:30am and goes from Mouse Creek to Cottonwood. The final hike starts at 9:30am and goes from Sandy Beach to Cottonwood. Be sure to bring your binoculars, a camera, water and appropriate dress for a cool-weather hike. Pets will not be allowed on the hikes. Afterwards, join us at the park office for complimentary hot chocolate, coffee, chili and hot dogs. Please call ahead and sign up for a hike, 580-592-4433.
This event is in conjunction with the America's State Parks First Day Hikes initiative that will take place in all 50 states. The First Day Hikes offer individuals and families an opportunity to begin the New Year rejuvenating and connecting with the outdoors by taking a healthy hike on the first day of the new year.
