Experience Christmas in the Cherokee Outlet as it was more than 100 years ago with the sights, smells and sounds of the holiday season at Christmas in the Village in Enid.  Escape to a simpler time and enjoy character-led tours of the beautifully adorned historic buildings within the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center complex.  Bring the entire family out on December 4 for this event's grand opening celebration and enjoy holiday refreshments, the glow of Christmas lights and a musical performance in the Village Church.  Send a letter to Santa, make a Christmas ornament with the schoolmarm at Turkey Creek School, enjoy cookies and cider, or shop for homemade items and historical looking toys in the Village Mercantile.

Visitors to Christmas in the Village will witness sparkling Christmas lights on all the buildings and on the 18' Christmas tree in the center of the village green.  Each building, including the 1898 one-room school, a 1902 church, the 1905 homestead of J.W. and Alice Glidewell and the only remaining U.S. Land Office from the 1893 Land Run, will be elegantly decorated using ideas and elements of design taken from Victorian catalogs and early 1900s newspaper articles.  More than 2,500 sq. ft. of garland, natural greenery and wreaths were used to create an authentic Victorian atmosphere.

Tour the Glidewell home, decorated to look as though the family had just left for an evening celebration and will return for Christmas dinner, and gaze upon the beautiful tree set up in the main entryway, the dining room table set with fine china and silver, and spectacular bouquets of live red roses placed in silver vases.  The church is decorated with six Christmas trees, while the school is accurately decorated with snowflakes and paper chains.

Following the opening event, guests of the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center are invited to witness the Humphrey Heritage Village transformed into an early 1900s Victorian Christmas village during the month of December with general museum admission.  Tour groups are also encouraged to visit Christmas in the Village during December (reservations required; please call the museum directly for more information).  Morning tours, lunch tours and afternoon tours are available, along with meal services that include pastries, coffee, cider, hot lunches and/or dessert.
