Rural Heritage Festival
The Rural Heritage Festival celebrates Perry's history by stepping back into the early days of Oklahoma with fun, educational experiences for the whole family. Living history interpretations and various demonstrations will be conducted throughout the day to show traditional skills and lifestyles associated with historic agriculture and rural communities. Re-enactors will demonstrate lost arts such as Dutch-oven cooking, blacksmithing, basket weaving, quilting and lye soap making.
This year, the festival will have food to enjoy, a handmade-items-only craft show and a heritage quilt exhibit in the museum's new gallery. There will be hands-on activities such as sack races, cakewalks, and apple bobbing and peeling stations. Children can also attend an interactive session of Rose Hill School at the museum's 1910 one-room schoolhouse to experience a lesson taught by a schoolmarm. Enjoy stringed-instrument music provided by the Great Plains Dulcimer Alliance, cowboy camps and even gunfighter shows at this family-friendly festival.
