Encompassing acres of forested, rolling hills in southern Oklahoma, Lake Murray State Park is a prime destination for outdoor activities. Fishing, boating and a variety of water sports are enjoyed on the 5,728 surface acres of Lake Murray. Outdoor activities include golf, picnicking, camping, trail riding, hayrides, hiking, biking, swimming, miniature golf and paddle boating. Sports facilities include an 18-hole, par 72 golf course with a pro shop, tennis courts, softball and baseball fields and horseshoe pits. Lake Murray State Park also offers an area for ATVs with about 1,000 acres of trails for ATVs, motorcycles and dirt bikes. Within the area by state law, helmets are required for those under 18, and riding double is only permitted when the ATV is manufactured for two people. A small ATV riding fee does apply.

Lake Murray Lodge, located within the state park, offers 52 guest rooms and suites.  Choose rooms with king-size, queen-size beds or twin-size beds, or opt for a two-bedroom suite with a stunning view of the lake. The nostalgic lodge also offers several meeting rooms, the Apple Bin restaurant, the Parlor Lounge and an inviting lobby commons area with a fireplace. Lake Murray Lodge offers a total of five meeting areas, from the 2,960 sq. ft. Harvest Ballroom to the 560 sq. ft. Flower Garden room. Banquet catering and audio/visual equipment are also available. An outdoor pool is also available to lodge and cabin guests. No pets are allowed in the lodge.

For a more remote experience, book one of the park's 56 cabins. These state park cabins feature everything from cozy cottages for two up to large family-size cabins; some feature convenient kitchenettes. For a small fee, pets are allowed in select cabins. A number of the cabins are also historic structures built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Reserve state park cabins and lodge rooms online, or call toll free (800) 257-0322 or local (580) 223-6600.

Nine RV campgrounds with 329 RV sites and 500 tent sites are located throughout Lake Murray State Park with full hookups, restrooms and showers. Some RV sites within the park are pull-through and six of the nine campgrounds are open 24 hours a day, with three gated (Elephant Rock, Cedar Cove and Tipps Point).  If not camping, these campgrounds require a small day-use fee. Other campgrounds include Duke's Forest, ATV campground, Martin's Landing, Rock Tower, Marietta Landing and Buzzard's Roost. All offer a variety of RV sites, as well as tent sites.  View a map of Lake Murray State Park campgrounds.  Three seasonal group camps are also located within the park, as well as a lighted, paved airstrip.

The park features an extensive trail system for hikers, horseback riders and ATV owners. The New Deal Trail features two miles of even trails toward the north end of the park, while the Anadarche Creek Trail is slightly hilly and features two scenic bridge crossings. View wildlife or go birding on the popular Buckhorn Trail, or enjoy the easy one-mile concrete walking trail at Elephant Rock. The park's field trial horse trails are perfect for an afternoon of horseback riding, while the ATV trail features 10 miles of wooded, lakeside trails.

Stay at Lake Murray State Park and create new family memories while enjoying the great outdoors in scenic southern Oklahoma. Large pavilions scattered throughout the park provide a shady gathering spot to relax and enjoy a meal cooked on the grill. Enjoy a variety of naturalist-led nature programs or splash around in the cool waters of the lake along 150 miles of shoreline. Enjoy the slides and water toys of Lake Murray Water Sports located within the park near the lodge, or take a peaceful trail ride with the help of the Lake Murray Riding Stables.  A marina with boat rentals is also located nearby.

***NOTICE*** Lodge Construction - New and additional buildings are under construction now.  Please be aware that contractors are on site and working six days a week in an effort to hasten opening dates.

Randy, the $12 tent charge is for one tent on one site. An additional child's tent for your dependent minors under 18 years of age may also be placed on your site for no additional fee. To place more than one tent on a campsite (not including the child's tent) you will need to get approval from the park manager. If you have any questions, please call the office at 580-223-4044. Thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From randy green on 05/26/15

Clicked pricing but didn't get much. Is the $12 for the sight with as many tents i want or is that for 1 tent?

Megan, at this time all campgrounds are open. We list all weather-related closures at www.travelok.com/state_parks_update. However, your best bet for up-to-the-minute camping information is to call the park office at 580-223-4044. Thank you for using TravelOK.com!

We stayed in cabin 225. Ceiling leaked water around where the bathroom vent used to be and now has plywood. Bugs in the floor in bedroom. Mattress was upside down with spring on top instead of the quilted side to the top.

Mike, campfires are allowed in the designated fire pits and fire rings provided there are no burn bans in effect. Before you light a fire, please check www.forestry.ok.gov/burn-ban-information for burn ban updates. Thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Mike on 04/27/15

Are you allowed to have camp fires in the tent area/designated areas?

From TravelOK.com Staff on 04/27/15

Marion, yes we do recommend Buzzard's Roost, Martin's Landing and Tipp's Point if you're looking for a tent site very near the water. The map for Tipp's Point on this page only shows the RV loop, and there is no tent camping in that area. Tents are allowed in the half mile from the gate to the shelter on both sides of the road from the entrance down to the lakeside. Thanks for your feedback about the map coloring, we'll pass that on for the next time we get an update. If you have any questions about Lake Murray State Park, please call the park office at 580-223-4044. Thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Marion on 04/27/15

Back on 9-24-14 you answered a question about tent camping and said The three campgrounds that will probably interest you most are Buzzard's Roost, Martin's Landing and Tipp's Point, each of which offer 50 tent sites from which to choose. Looking at the individual campground map for Tipps Point, I don't see any tent site area at all. Also, not to be critical, but want to pass along that the individual campground maps are very hard to read - light grey text on a white background. Thanks.

From TravelOK.com Staff on 04/27/15

James, please take a look at this overview of Lake Murray State Park. It will give you more information on each of the available campgrounds at the park. www.travelok.com/article_page/lake-murray-state-park-an-overview. Happy camping and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

As soon as we get a updated map for the campground, we'll add it to this page. Thank you for using TravelOK.com!

Peter, as of right now we don't have a set date that Lake Murray State Park will be added to the online reservation system, but it will happen! The park has added a new loop of 10 more sites with full service (50 amp electric, water and sewer). The cost on those sites is $28 per night. From John on 04/07/15

When will Lake Murray have site specific reservations for camping? Thanks

From TravelOK.com Staff on 04/07/15

Sandy, we can give you more information on campgrounds with full hookups, but we do not have detailed site information on TravelOK.com, because all the sites at Lake Murray State Park are available on a first come, first serve basis. Here is a breakdown of all the campgrounds that offer modern RV sites (water, electric and sewer) and how many are available: Tipps Point-1, Cedar Cove-1, Elephant Rock-39, ATV Campground-29, Martin's Landing-8, Rock Tower-27 and Buzzard's Roost-16. You will have lake views from every campground listed except the ATV Campground and Rock Tower. If you need more information, please feel free to call the park office at 580-223-4044. Happy camping and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Sandy Racile on 04/06/15

Can you recommend a site # that is lakeview for a 30 amp travel trailer with sewer

From Delania Trigg on 04/05/15

I had a great time on my recent visit. The staff is really friendly and they worked hard to make my stay pleasant...the lodge was quiet and peaceful. The only thing I lacked was wifi. Apparently, wifi service is pretty sketchy so don't count on being able to connect to wifi. The lodge rooms are also smaller than hotel rooms but that was no problem for me. I'm looking forward to booking a cabin and possibly bringing my family to the park later this year. Overall, I had a nice, relaxing little holiday....thank you!

From TravelOK.com Staff on 03/30/15

Matthew, for wedding-related questions, please call the park office at 580-223-4044. Thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From matthew dragg on 03/28/15

can u rent or use Tuckers Tower for a wedding?

From TravelOK.com Staff on 03/26/15

Casey, all of the tent sites are primitive, which means they have no hookups. However, you are more than welcome to set your tent up on an RV site with hookups. Please keep in mind that you'll be paying for the site and not the sleeping unit, so it will be a bit higher per night. At this time, all sites at Lake Murray State Park are available on a first come, first serve basis. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the park office at 580-223-4044. Have a great day and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From casey on 03/25/15

do you have tent sites that have water and electric?

From TravelOK.com Staff on 03/24/15

Tiffany, we're sorry, but according to the online booking link located at the top of this page, all the cabins are already reserved for that weekend. However, there are lodge rooms available. We'd encourage you to call the park office at 800-257-0322 or 580-223-6600 to see if there's anything that could work for your group. Just for reference, Lake Murray State Park has cabins that sleep anywhere from two to 12 people, and you're more than welcome to bring your own air mattresses. Mary, for that information it would be best to speak with someone at the park office directly at 580-223-4044 so they can get a better idea of what facilities you're looking to rent. Have a great day and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From mary mosshammer on 01/20/15

can someone contact me about holding a function for around 100 people in January 2016.

From TravelOK.com Staff on 01/19/15

Sue, there are three group camps available that have anywhere from 15-30 cabins. All three group camps have dining halls with kitchens, a private beach, softball field, volleyball set-up, horseshoe set-up and locked gates. However, the cabins are rustic and come with cots and no A/C. You may be more interested in reserving a number of regular cabins within the park. For that information, your best bet is to call the park at 800-257-0322 or 580-223-6600 to check on availability. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Sue Wood on 01/18/15

Not making comment, but asking questions. What would you have for a family reunion in the summer with about 35 attending? We need to be able to prepare our own food. Is there a big cabin where several could stay? Would we be able to fix our meals in the kitchens in individual cabins? Thanks. The Woods

Bret, ATV riding is open seven days a week from 8am to sunset. For more information, please call the park office at 580-223-4044. Have a great day and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Bret on 01/15/15

What are the hours for ATV riding?

From TravelOK.com Staff on 12/15/14

Gary, thanks for your question! If you stay the night in the ATV campground and you want to ride in the ATV area, you will have to pay the additional $10 per rider per day fee. However, you are more than welcome to stay in the ATV campground even if you do not plan on riding. Vice versa, you can ride in the ATV area without staying in the campground. If you have any questions, please give the park office a call at 580-223-4044. Have a great day and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Gary Lemaster on 12/12/14

I am wondering about the ATV cmapground area. If you pay to stay the night in an RV or tent, do you still have to pay the 10.00 per day riding fee?

From TravelOK.com Staff on 12/03/14

James, great question! We're actually in the process of adding new parks to the system all the time. Right now, we hope to have Lake Murray State Park in that system around spring/summer of 2015. When RV reservations are available, we will put a green 'Book RV Campsites' button at the top of this page and also list the park at www.travelok.com/state_parks_rv_sites. Have a great day and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From James Petrey on 12/03/14

Will campsite specific reservations be available at Lake Murray like some of your other state parks?

From Linda on 12/01/14

Thank you! It will be end of Dec... and did read that. You don't mention which areas are 'under construction'.... just which are closed for the season.

From TravelOK.com Staff on 12/01/14

Linda, the 30 amp electric needs a straight connection. Just as a reminder, as of today only the Elephant Rock, Buzzard's Roost and ATV campgrounds will be open. If you have any questions, please call park office at 580-223-4044. Have a great day and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Sara on 10/10/14

How do you find out about camphost jobs there?

From Patricia on 10/02/14

Just got back from a 2 day stay in one of the cabins... they said it was rustic and it was, but they didn't say it had dirt floors. I don't think the floors had been swept and mopped in years. No dusting had been done and cob webs everywhere....makes me think the kitchen area and bath area haven't been disinfected in a very long time.... Won't be returning.

From TravelOK.com Staff on 10/02/14

Barbara, sorry you're having difficulty. We just checked, and there are definitely cabins available from April 1-5, 2015. Try doing your search again and leaving the number of guests and rooms at '1' to see the most results. If you continue to have trouble, please call 800-257-0322 or 580-223-6600 for reservations. Are the cabins south of the lodge on the road that goes down to the boat ramp still available? What are the off-season rates for small lakefront cabins?

From TravelOK.com Staff on 09/29/14

Jackie, all of the tent sites are primitive, which means they have no hookups.

From Steven & Trish Bannister on 09/29/14

Really enjoyed the day on Saturday, 9/27/14. Rock Tower was very peaceful and serene. Bathrooms were very clean. Looking forward to campning out there next weekend. The park Rangers were very curtious and informative. Thank you for a wonderful day.

From Jackie Davis on 09/27/14

Do any of the tent sites have electric/water or do we need to reserve a RV site?

From TravelOK.com Staff on 09/24/14

Matt, the $12 fee is per tent camping site, not per person. The fee is slightly higher for RV sites since they offer hookups. For more information, please call the park office at 580-223-4044. Have a great day and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Matt Templeton on 09/24/14

Is the campground $12 per person?

From TravelOK.com Staff on 09/24/14

Rebecca, there are definitely some great options for fishing and tent camping at Lake Murray State Park! The three campgrounds that will probably interest you most are Buzzard's Roost, Martin's Landing and Tipp's Point, each of which offer 50 tent sites from which to choose. The Buzzard's Roost Area is surrounded by water and has a view of Tucker Tower, while Martin's Landing is also on the water and has a fishing dock. Tipp's Point is in a gated campground that gets locked from 11pm to 7am. It's right by the water and has direct access to Buckhorn Trail. Since all sites are available on a first come, first serve basis, you will be able to view each campground before making your decision. If you'll click 'View Lake Murray State Park Guide' on the right side of this screen, you can read more information about the campgrounds. Individual campground maps and a map of the park is also available on this page. For more information, please call the park office at 580-223-4044. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

Dont stay here! Not worth the hassle! I tried to pay cash when we got here and they refused it and then held it on my credit card. Finally got that resolved and paid the cash and we have now been home a week and yesterday my card was charged again. The staff to check in do not know what they are doing and are extremely rude! The cabin smelled like wet dog and there were plumbing issues the entire time we were there. So we couldnt even sit outside our cabin because of the sewer smell. Very Very disappointing . We normally go every summer but unfortunately this summer will definitely be our last!

Renee, we're sorry for the inconvenience and do want to let you know that we offer online RV site reservations at eight state parks. If you're interested, you can see them at www.travelok.com/state_parks_rv_sites. In addition, both Sequoyah State Park and Talimena State Park also offer campsite reservations over the phone. Lake Murray is our largest state park with over 329 RV sites and 500 tent sites, so we're sure there will be a site that's perfect for your motor home. You are also more than welcome to call the park office at 580-223-4044 to check how full the park is before you leave. We hope you'll be able to visit this beautiful park in the future, it's worth the trip! Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Renee on 07/31/14

We want to bring our boat and our 40' motor home up to Lake Murray but you can't reserve a site! I am not driving 2+ hours from Dallas and not guaranteed a spot. I wonder how much revenue your state has lost because of this outdated approach. Other states have figured out reservation systems.

From Stacy OKC on 07/22/14

Rented a villa. Didnt realize we had NO kitchen, probably my mistake for not noticing online. Just a microwave, coffee pot, and little fridge. We obviously got an unrenovated unit. The villa smelled terrible and the carpet was nasty. When we first got here to check in it was about 1PM. The new person was nice and even told us what cabin we had but it wasn't ready yet. She told us to come back at 3PM to check in. We left and saw where the cabin was and noticed the maids were done cleaning so we went back to check in at 2PM. When I got back, the other staff member then commented, that is why we don't tell people what cabin they are in because they come back and try to check in early. That person had no customer service and needs to be fired. I will never come back here again even if the unit was renovated. I can deal with subpar accomodations, but rude staff I cannot.

How do I book a outdoor camping site and where do I find outdoor camping information

From TravelOK.com Staff on 07/02/14

Nancy, that's kind of a tricky question. Technically, there are no limits on number of people allowed, though they must be part of a family unit, which is defined as 'two parents and dependent children or grandparents and grandchildren only.' You are permitted to have your tent as well as a child's tent on the site for no extra charge, though it must be only be used for your dependent children under the age of 18. There will be a place to park near your site. If you have any other questions, please call the park staff at 580-223-4044. Happy camping and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Nancy Fraire on 07/02/14

At the primitive tent sites how many people are permitted per site and can vehicles be in the site as well?

From TravelOK.com Staff on 07/02/14

From TravelOK.com Staff on 07/02/14

Tiffany, if you're talking about a picnic pavilion, then you'll need to call 580-223-4044 to reserve that. However, if you just want a picnic table in one of the park's day use areas, those are first come, first serve. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Tiffany on 07/01/14

I was curious how to get a picnic area for Friday? are they pre-reserved or first come first serve?

From TravelOK.com Staff on 07/01/14

Willem, thanks for your question. All sites at Lake Murray State Park are available on a first come, first serve basis. However, there is an exception to ADA sites. There is a sign posted on all the official ADA sites that says the site must remain empty unless the camper has the blue disability placard showing that they are handicapped. At 8pm, the site will be available to anyone for one night only. However, if a person with a disability shows up and wants the site, the other party will be asked to move. Also, if you notice the site is taken by someone without the blue placard, you can ask the camp host to have the other party leave the site. For more information, please call the park office at 580-223-4044 or email lakemurraystatepark@oklahomaparks.com. Happy camping and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From TravelOK.com Staff on 06/30/14

Anay, the only time you'll pay an extra fee for pets is if you're staying in a pet-friendly cabin. If you're staying on a tent or RV site there is no extra charge. However, your dog must be on a leash no longer than 10 feet at all times and must be cleaned up after. Fireworks are not allowed in Lake Murray State Park at any time. If you have any other questions, please call 580-223-4044. Have a great day and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

Just wanted to let ya'll know.

From Betty on 06/17/14

I hope one day Lake Murray State Park will be one of those parks that accept online reservations. We live just 15 minutes away from this beautiful lake, but hardly ever camp because of the large number of campers that keep sites taken pretty much the whole summer. We have personally seen the tickets on a couple of sites that were occupied for a month. Maybe the 14 day limit does not apply to all of the campgrounds, we are unsure. We love this State Park and would love to be able to enjoy it without having to go out 3 days ahead of time just to scout out a possible site to use, and we certainly can't afford to pay for an extra 2 or 3 nights just to assure we will have a place to camp on the weekend...it's simply not worth the stress. We now travel anywhere up to 3 hours to use Corp parks because you can reserve any site on line up to a year in advance. We still go out and enjoy Lake Murray when we can, but just during the day. We look forward to the day that we can simply get online and book a campsite and know that all we have to do is drive and park in a site we know will be available, and truly relax and enjoy this beautiful park.

From TravelOK.com Staff on 06/03/14

Ronna and B Tran, all of the RV sites at Lake Murray State Park a first come, first serve basis. However, there are over 300 sites available, so you shouldn't have any issues finding a spot. You are more than welcome to call the park at 580-223-4044 to check on how full it is before you head out. Currently, there are eight Oklahoma state parks that accept online reservations. Bob, there are six picnic pavilions at Lake Murray State Park that come with electric, grills and picnic tables for up to 75 people. They rent for $50-$75 per day. However, none of them are enclosed. The park does offer three group camps that include a dining hall that you can rent for $250-$300 a night. For more information on what's included please click on 'Lake Murray State Park Guide' located on the right side of this screen. If you have any questions or would like to make a reservation, please call 580-223-4044. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

I am gathering information on possible location's to hold our family reunion July 4th 2015. One thing I did not see on your site was information on a enclosed pravillion. Do you have one?

From James Lloyd on 05/28/14

I was just there this weekend, and the Ramp at Elephant Rock was open as well.

From TravelOK.com Staff on 05/28/14

Rodney, at this time only the ramp at the marina is open. If you have any questions, please call 580-223-4044. Have a great day and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Rodney on 05/28/14

What boat ramps are currently open?

From TravelOK.com Staff on 05/27/14

Sean, many of Oklahoma's state parks have designated some sites as premium for many reasons, one of which may be proximity to the water. Others might include location, proximity to bathroom, pull-thru site, 50 amp service, shade, etc. Each site should have its own grill or fire pit, regardless of whether or not it is a premium site. However, none of the designated tent sites offer electric hookups. For that, you'd need to put your tent on an RV site. The rates for that start at $20 per night for a site with electric and water hookups. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call the park office at 580-223-4044. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Sean on 05/25/14

What amenities are available at the preferred tent sites? Mostly curious if there is access to electrical outlets and a grill or fire pit

Was very excited to bring family to an Oklahoma state park to show them how nice the cabins can be. Lake Murray state park has the worst cabins I have ever seen in the state of Oklahoma! Floors are covered by the nastiest carpet I have ever encountered. Stains and dead bugs every where. Screened in porches have never seen a broom. No dishes or utensils in the kitchen.

trying to find a place in Ok to camp with horses that has RV hookup and horse trails for the end of April/early May

From cathi on 04/08/14

I'm a bit disappointed in the camping that OK offers. Website is very outdated. Unable to make online reservations, first come-first serve. We don't live in OK and don't want to drive several hours only to find out the campsites have been taken. Only 1 child's tent per campsite? Am I supposed to let my other 8 year old be unsupervised on another campsite that may or may not be nearby?Seriously? Please look at a calendar and remember that you are in 2014 and join the rest of us!

We are looking for camping or cabins sometime late September or October near some dirt bike trails and lake. Would that be available here?

From Lew Logan on 09/12/13

Thank you for your inquiry. I'm not aware of any financial or staffing problems that the park is having. As I drive through the park it looks well maintained. Twenty-nine cabins have been totally remodeled, two are in the process and three remain and should be completed by the end of January. That will complete phase one and phase two will consist of partial remodel for an additional nineteen cabins. To date all appliances, furniture, and televisions have been replaced in all cabins. The lodge will be replaced in the future with an anticipated completion of 2015. Rates are reasonable for a resort setting and no adjustments are planned at this time.

From Michael P. on 09/12/13

To STAFF at Lake Murray State Park ... I have friends who want to visit Lake Murray soon but after reading the reviews on this website as well as several others around the web, I am not only disappointed but concerned about the trip. It sounds as if the lodge and cabins are in horrible condition, not only cleanliness but in general repair and keeping updated. And it sounds like the park itself is having some serious financial and staffing issues that are causing a less-than-satisfactory experience for the park guests. Can you tell me very openly and honestly what the issues are and what is being done to address them? I realize this isn't a luxury hotel but based on what I am reading, your lodge rooms and cabins are not up to the standards I would expect for the prices you charge. I don't mind paying more for a nice room, but if the cabins and lodge rooms are rustic, the prices should reflect that. And there is simply no excuse for a lack of proper cleaning as well as keeping things such as the plumbing in working condition. Guests at any reputable commercial property who had such negative experiences would be compensated in some way for the inconvenience, and a state run facility should be managed no differently. What can you tell me to allay my concerns? Thanks in advance for your response.

From Carol Conrad on 09/03/13

You can have a fire and there is no burn ban. You can buy wood at the Lodge front desk.

From briana on 09/02/13

We're coming this weekend and staying in a cabin. Does anyone know if campfires are allowed outside the cabins? Any burn bans going on?

From owner on 08/30/13

Lake Murray State Park has several tent camping areas: Martin's Landing, Rock Tower, Marietta Landing, Ski Jump, Buzzard Roost, Tipp's Point and Duke's Forest. These areas are open and available for tents at the rate of $12 per tent per night. We have an ongoing project at the Lodge for cabin renovation and, of course, the new Lodge is in the planning process and construction on it should begin in 2014. We are always concerned about trash in the campgrounds and would welcome a call to the park office at 580 223 4044. If you will call and let us know where there is a problem, we will address it. You may speak with me, Park Manager Carol Conrad, at that number. Thank you for your comment.

From CG on 08/29/13

Been going to Lake Murray for more than thirty five years. I have no idea what is going on. Is it a state problem, a park management problem or what. The primitive camping is all closed because of the trash. Seems like a more appropriate solution would be to put a better system in place, not just close it. The lodge is horrible, just read the comments below. Part of the shoreline is closed and has been for several years with no explanation. The rangers are mostly rude and arrogant, I interact with them frequently and about 1/2 the time feel like I am being treated like a child. The camp sites are poorly monitored. Sometimes trashy and not cleaned. Sunset beach is only open when someone feels like driving over and opening the gate. I have found it closed at 11am on a Saturday. What is going on. Does anyone have any answers as to why our state cannot manage this beautiful property better. I know I will probably never see any response to this, but wanted to put it on here anyway. It is a real shame that we are letting our state treat this beautiful old property this way.

From Steven on 08/22/13

Lake Murray is the best in the state, the lodge rooms are outdated, with old comforters. Rooms seemed clean, AC worked beautifully. But if your wanting a nice hotel this isn't it. If you are just wanting to lie down in AC instead of camp, this is your place. Staff is friendly

From Taylor on 08/19/13

I stayed at the lodge this last weekend with some friends and we were very disappointed in the room. The room was very gross and nasty. The sink did not drain, the beds were small, there was hair all over the bathroom floor and the shower did not have a shower head. I would certainly not stay there again.

From TravelOK.com Staff on 08/16/13

Andrea, we did not see a cabin that large available during those dates by using the green 'Book Now' button at the top of this page, so your best bet would be to contact the staff directly by calling 580-223-6600. Pam, we're sorry that you had a less than stellar experience at Lake Murray State Park. We know the staff there does their best to keep the cabins clean, but insects will sometimes make their way in especially in the hot summer months. We're sure that the staff would have moved you if they had any cabins available, as only six of the park's 56 cabins have at least three bedrooms. We hope you'll reconsider visiting another Oklahoma state park, because each one has so much to offer. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Pam Grist on 07/22/13

Stayed in 6 person cabin 241 this weekend. Carpet nasty, smelly. The cabin is spacious did not enjoy cobwebs or wolf spider that was two inches in kids room. Spoke to front desk and they couldn't move us and didn't offer to reduce price. Would not stay unless updated cabins.

Di Ann, Lake Murray State Park is Oklahoma's largest state park and has 329 RV sites and 500 tent sites. The busiest times for our parks are Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend. From TravelOK.com Staff on 07/10/13

Brandon, the Rock Tower tent area sites aren't extremely close, but the area is usually empty and private. As far as swimming, you shouldn't have any issues. The park staff has suggested swimming at the Rock Tower fishing pier, as there is no beach available at the Rock Tower campground. If you'd like a better beach, they suggest camping at Martin's Landing, though it would be more crowded. If you have any questions, please give the park a call at 580-223-4044. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Brandon on 07/10/13

Looking into tent camping from July 15th to 18th. From what I've read, Rock Tower sounds appealing because of the 'privacy' and primitive camping sites. How close together are the tent sites? And, with the low water levels, will we be able to enjoy swimming?

From TravelOK.com Staff on 07/09/13

Vian, there are many campsites along the shoreline at Lake Murray State Park! Here is a quick overview of each campground, which may help you decide where you'd like to stay. Tipp's Point - Large tent area. Tables, grills, playground, pavilion. Leashed pets allowed. Located right by the water. Direct access to Buckhorn Trail. Popular area. Cedar Cove - No tent camping. Lake view. Popular area. Directly on shore, wooded. Playground, bathrooms, dump station. Elephant Rock - No tent camping. Lake view. Popular area. Good for big RVs, pull-through sites. Playground, lake access, bathrooms, picnic tables, laundry. Duke's Forest - RV sites can be reserved for groups. Group must contain 5 or more RVs, stay at least 2 nights and pay in advance. Public ball field. Low traffic area. Pavilion, restrooms with flush toilets. Least improved tent sites. ATV Campground - Bathrooms, playgrounds. Big, pull-through RV sites. From Vian on 07/09/13

You listed camp sites for Brittany below, which site do you feel has the best view and access to the lake. Are there any on the shoreline? Thanks

From Kim L on 07/08/13

I strongly recommend this park over any that I have stayed at so far. We went earlier this month with another family. Between camping for a few days, renting a boat, swimming, etc., our families had a blast. The water off the boat was super clean considering it was a lake. The kids got to see perch swimming under the boat. My only complaint was that previous lake goers left broken glass on the shore. The boating company took great care of us. We have set to go back every year in June.

Joann, you can check on lodge and cabin availability by clicking on the green 'Book Now' button at the top of the page or by calling 800-257-0322 or 580-223-6600. The prices range depending on the days of the week and season you are interested in. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

Frank, if you made the lodge reservation online then you will have to cancel online. If not, you will need to speak with someone at 800-257-0322 or 580-223-6600. All of our state parks were extremely busy last week for the Independence Day holiday. If someone has not returned your call, please let us know. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Frank Conover on 07/03/13

I have been trying for several days to reach the lodge to cancel a cabin reservation for next week. No one answers, I left a message, still haven't heard back. How do I cancel????

From TravelOK.com Staff on 07/03/13

Maria, we're very sorry about the issues you had at Lake Murray State Park. The tile floor would not normally have been an issue, but the newly replaced tile was scratched and had to be replaced again. This closed the cabin for longer than the staff originally thought. We've been in contact with the lodge manager and have been told that a cabin did come available for the dates you requested, so we're very glad that everything worked out. We hope that you have a great trip and return many times in the future. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Maria on 07/02/13

I have been going to Lake Murray since I was a kid. I have an affinity with the Lake, the cabins, and the chapel. I named my first Maltese, Murray. I feel at home at Lake Murray. Unfortunately, in the past 10 years or so, it has been somewhat of a bad experience. I have endured sinks, toilets, and showers backing up. I have endured cockroaches in the cabins. They lost my check for one of my stays and later found it. I was promised a certain cabin number that I requested on one of my stays. Upon arrival, I was told that I could not stay in the cabin because the - blank to not reveal the identity of the family- always get that cabin when they stay there. My goodness, they reveal guest names. I booked a cabin for this July 4th. I packed my suitcase for this trip almost two weeks ago. This trip is all I have been talking about for weeks! I was so excited and looking forward to seeing the lake and the chapel! Today on July 2nd, I received a phone call just before 2 p.m. informing me that they are cancelling my reservation because the cabin has no tile floor and is gutted. Since I have been billed for a night’s stay, and have a formal letter with a reservation confirmation number, I fail to understand this cancellation. I explained that. The reservation agent explained to me that I was welcome to stay in the empty shell of a cabin if I want to. I requested the manager. He took forever to come to the phone. It was a basic waste of a conversation. He did absolutely nothing, and he did not even express an apology. A reservation and billing your credit card mean nothing. This location is poorly managed. I could manage it better in my sleep. For over 10 years, this location has NOT known the meaning of Customer Service.

From Ashley on 06/29/13

I stayed at Lake Murray during the end of June for my honeymoon. It was not at all what I was expecting. The lodge room was unbelievably small for the price, dirty, no shower head in the very small shower, staff was not very friendly, etc. I ate at the Apple Bin Restaurant and they brought me a cold pizza. Instead of remaking it correctly they throw it in the microwave and heat it more. Me and my husband spent the whole time there dodging wasps. Needless to say we left early. Not going back there.

I went to Lake Murray for the first time this past weekend. I was very pleased with just about everything. This tent sites were clean, the water was clear, fishing was pretty good, the hiking was good, etc. We had an awesome time there and plan on going every chance we get. The best thing is that it was peaceful. The rangers don't put up with rowdy campers so if you're looking to go party and raise a ruckus then this is not the place to go. It's very family oriented. Good job to everybody involved with the upkeep of this wonderful place!

I have been going to Lake Murray off and on for almost 40 years. I have camped in a tent, travel trailer, and stayed in a cabin. The cabins are on the rustic side but very acceptable for a lake and what do you expect at a lake. I have fished, hiked, water skied, and been scuba diving there. I have always found it a good place to be. I have not stayed in the lodge but from what I have seen it looks nice. I have been there with my family, also alone and with a bunch of guys. We have always had good clean fun with no trouble.

Stephanie, we're so glad that you have enjoyed Lake Murray State Park! With regard to your question about the cabins, all of the cabins that are west of the current lodge to Scenic Hwy 77 intersection will remain. The cabins that were south of the lodge have been removed. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Stephanie on 12/09/12

We've been there several times, each time staying in the exact same cabin. We like it okay. It's small, but it's all we need for two people and a small dog. If we'd change anything, we'd have them make the bathroom just a tad wider because when you open the door, it hits the bathroom sink. Also, the window unit in the main area doesn't cool or heat the bathroom or the kitchen. This is a problem only in the coldest part of winter and, to us, from May to early October. Another thing. Future cabin renters may want to experiment with the stove because I like to do some baking but the oven dial numbers were completely rubbed off. I discovered that if you turn it on and turn the dial clockwise until the line on the knob is three quarters turn, or one quarter turn from the top, this will affect about a three seventy five degree oven temp. I say this cuz the other cabins may have the same issue. Note. A lady who worked for the lodge told me that when they build a new lodge down the road, they would be getting rid of the cabins and wouldn't be building any new ones. I was concerned because we enjoyed coming with our pet and noticed that many other cabins were filled with patrons with pets. I brought this up with one of the other employees, and she insisted that, no, these cabins will remain. They'll be remodeled since they're older, but they'll still be available to all those who enjoy them. If someone else could verify this as well, we'd appreciate it. Thanks.

From Karen on 12/01/12

We met family there over Thanksgiving weekend and spent the day at one of the parks on the lake, which was a fun time. We enjoyed a nice hike and a picnic lunch. We also drove and looked at all the tent camping sites, thinking it would be nice to camp in the future. If you're used to a typical tent camping site - spacious to give you distance between the other campers, with a picnic table, fire ring, and trees and shrubs between you and the next campsite, this is not what you're going to get. The RV sites have more vegetation than do the tent sites, which seems odd. The tent sites look like a day use area at a typical lake - each spot has a picnic table placed fairly close to the next picnic table on a lawn. There is absolutely no privacy and the spots are way too close together. My thought was the people who designed these aren't tent campers and have never visited any parks or campgrounds with real tent camp sites. Hopefully some day they'll plant some shrubs and trees between the tent camp sites and give each spot more space.

From Vernona Dismuke on 11/25/12

Rented a cabin this weekend. overall experience was good. The park is beautiful. When I made the reservations the staff were quite helpful. In person, they were not. We were told over the phone check-in was 3p.m. When we arrived at 3 p.m. we were told that they only guaranteed check-in at 6 p.m. The cabin was ready at 4 p.m. The cabins are older but still liveable and clean. I was origininally disappointed but ended up liking the place ok. Our only other experience with state park loding was with a new state park in Louisiana so the comparison is unfair. We plan to go again so I guess it all worked out. I would agree with many others in that the staff is the weak link.

From Susan on 11/24/12

We love Lake Murray! We have been here several times and have never been disappointed. It is a great place to go hiking. We always go in winter or early spring when it is not too crowded and most of the activities are closed, but it makes for a quiet getaway. There is also a lot do in surrounding areas. We are looking forward to another visit in December.

From Margaret on 11/19/12

Rented Cabins here twice in the last 4 weeks, love it there, the color change in that area in the fall is amazing. Chris works the desk at the lodge and he is so outgoing and helpful unlike the girl who works there during the day. I recommend this place for a great family getaway.

I love Lake Murry!!!! Great place.I just wish the people were friendlyer!!Overall a great place. Ilove horseback riding!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From Chris Patterson on 10/02/12

Cabin stay was good, however don't even bother renting any type of water sports from the boat rental place. They are rude and claim that its state regulated, but they make up their own rules. They are not friendly folks and will not work with you even if the lake is empty and all their boats are docked. If you give them any business, your vacation will be ruined. If you rent, take atleast 50 pics of jet skies and boats from every angle, otherwise they will find a way to charge some money on your credit card.

Our family spend the last week end here. Overall it was a good experience. The boat rental staff are not friendly. We end up not renting.

From Bobert on 09/21/12

ATVers. We had a blast at the ATV grounds here. Many different terrain levels - then when you get hot, drive up to the shore and jump, or drive, in. Really nice trails - some in the trees, some in the sand, some ravines. Lots of fun and variety. Thanks Lake Murray.

From Tom Smith on 09/19/12

Stayed two days at Lake Murray. Cabins and campgrounds were okay. Had terrible experience at the boat rental place. These people were rude and acted like we were criminals! Don't rent boat or jet ski from this place. Find another place or you are better off doing something else.

From binu k on 09/19/12

Went to lake murray lst week. The cabins are alrite. I have seen much better places. The boat rental company is the one you have to be carefull about. They have scratches on all their jet skis and they will say that you have scratched their jet ski and will charge you 200 dollars for a scratch. Its a rip off. I dont think thats what you want to deal with when you are having a vaction. They will charge you an arm and a leg for that

From Benny p on 09/19/12

We went to lake Murray for a weak end get away, last week. The cabins were mediocre not all that clean but was manageable. The boat rental experience was horrible. While we were in the middle of the lake, the jet sky that was pulling the boat, sucked in the rope that was hanging from the boat, the jet sky was still running but slow. When we returned the boat, somehow the the rope being there end up as our fault. It looked like all you have to do is remove the rope from the shaft. They also came up with a scratch on the other jet sky we rented, it was a small scratch, that can be considered as part the regular wear and tear, I am not even sure we did that or it was there already . At first they came up with a hand written bill for about $1800.00, and when we asked for a invoice they came up with a parts list for $1400.00. When we ask for an explanation of the bill they threatened us to call the cops on us, like we were doing something criminal. I think that's how they make their money, ripping people off with their bullying tactics. Any way park experience was ok, but the lake experience was horrible and very expensive. we will not be going there anymore.

From Tom Price on 09/18/12

Cabins were ok but the boat rental place is horrible, if you are planning on renting jet skie, please make sure you count the number of scratches or take a picture of it, else u r gona loose big bucks...Will never go back to this place.

From Chris Putman on 09/18/12

We had a really horrible weekend. Cabin was ok but doesn't have any lake view. If you are planning to rent a boat, try to find another lake/boat rental place. Our experience was horrible and would never go back to that place.

From Jacob on 09/18/12

This is supposed to be a fun place. But unfortunately with the cabins that had not been cleaned for years and the rude employees at boat rental company, it make a bizarre experience. To those of you considering renting boats or watersports, please don't do it. You will experience a really bad customer service from the owner/operator of Lake Murray boat rentals.

Cabins are really old and you cannot get a good lake view from any of the cabins. You are at a wrong place if you are here for any water sports. The boat rental company sucks. It is privately owned and you get a horrible service. Please make sure you have insurance before renting boats or wave runners, otherwise it would cost you a fortune.

From TravelOK.com Staff on 09/18/12

Dave, most of the cabins at Lake Murray State Park are tucked away in a wooded area, while the campgrounds have the best view of the lake. For more information, please call the park directly at 580-223-6600. Thank you for using TravelOK.com!

From Dave on 09/18/12

Do you have a 1 bedroom cabin that has a lake view? Not one on the water. Thanks...Dave

Anne, as of right now there is no way to reserve a tent or RV site at Lake Murray State Park. The Oklahoma Tourism & Recreation Department is currently working with other state agencies and their contractors to put a reservation system in place for Oklahoma State Parks, and we're looking forward to an early 2013 release date. From Jimmy D on 07/15/12

I love this place !!! We have visited this area for the past three years. We are from Dallas and I can't think of many lakes within a hundred mile radius that's much clearer than this one. The first year we visited this area to stay in some nearby cabins called River of Love. The owner told us about Lake Murray. The second year we rented an R.V and this year we have purchased a camper. We love the new full hook-up places. We hope you add more in the future. I can say I wish that some of the trash would be cleaned up around some of the less popular places. It's a shame how people treat this beautiful lake by trashing it. Over-all it's a wonderful place to bring the grand-children. They love the bike trails and new playground area. We will return. Mary & Jimmy D Dallas TX.

From Megan on 07/07/12

My family and I spent a day out on the beautiful lake today. We were told the lake was low this year. I noticed there were dry islands with shallow water buoys stuck on them but the actual shallow water areas were not marked at all. We ran our boat on rocks once because it was not marked. This was our only bad experience on the lake but made a tense day.

From Stephanie on 07/05/12

Lake Murray is a beautiful lake, but the delay on building the new lodge is taking a terrible toll on the park's reputation. The lodge appears to be understaffed, the building is going downhill fast. The restaurant was out of tea bags, and the fish buffet was inedible. The staff is friendly, but we won't go back there because it is just too sad to see the shape things are in. It used to be one of our favorite places, too. It's a very poor image for Oklahoma. I think all the congress people need to stay a couple of days there and GET THE PICTURE! they need emergency action. Call the TV show Restaurant AND Hotel Impossible! This great place should never have been allowed to go this far downhill.

From Ray Kimbrell on 06/29/12

My family and I spent a few days camping at Tipps Point .We had a blast. The scenery is great. We enjoyed staying minus one particular thing. All of the trash scattered about. I can truly understand some trash scattered, as this is a very popular spot. I did not expect the amount we encountered . Everywhere we went, there was at least two to three large trash bags full. I know this because we cleaned it up where we were . Some of the refuse we picked up had been there for quite a while . Is there any type of enforcement on this? As stated before, we love the area and plan to return soon. I am a nature enthusiast and love doing my part to keeping the great Oklahoma Ooutdoors GREAT.

From TravelOK.com Staff on 06/27/12

I would appreciate any additional information as to area , requirements such as flags , helmets etc along with fees hours etc. Thanks we look forward to having a great time at Lake Murray

From Carol Conrad on 06/16/12

Hi, I saw your comment and wanted to respond. Lake Murray Lodge has rooms and cabins, you may book those at 1 800 257 0322. Those are resort accommodations with AC. RV camping is about 1 miles from these. Here in the park, we rent Group Camps for large groups. The facilities are rustic and those cabins do not have AC. The camps are rented at our park office at 580 223 4044. If you could call us we could more easily explain your choices. Thanks, Carol Conrad, Park Manager

From C.D.Pricer on 06/16/12

I am going to be planing my family reunion and was looking into this lake but i noticed for the group camping there is no A/C for the cabins!!! Is this true? I know the family members that would use the cabins are the ones that NEED the A/C. Also at these group places are there areas of the cabins and RV spots close. I couldnt find a good site map of any of these areas online. Thank you

From TravelOK.com Staff on 06/15/12

JL, thank you for your comment and we have forwarded your concerns to park officials. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com.

From J. L. Ray on 06/15/12

I visited the ATV park recently and have to say I enjoyed myself. There are so many great trails and the campsites are spacious and reasonable. The 9am rule and no bikes after dark are perfect to allow us to rest. However, there was one thing that ruined it for us. The Guy that runs the gate. He was extremely rude. He speaks down to everyone and tells them to clean their campsite. I will not be back!

From TravelOK.com Staff on 06/05/12

Darren and Mark, we appreciate your comments and understand your frustration. The Oklahoma Tourism & Recreation Department is currently working with other state agencies and their contractors to put a reservation system in place for Oklahoma State Parks. We're looking forward to an early 2013 release date. We appreciate your continued support of Oklahoma State Parks, like Lake Murray State Park and truly value your business.

From Darren on 06/04/12

Get a reservation system!! My next email goes to Governor Marry Fallin. I encourage all who feel this way to do the same.

From Mark on 06/04/12

The comment from Kristie below made me want to do a follow up to my earlier post. As an FYI, I just came back yesterday from a really nice weekend at Roaring River State Park in MO. Neat little park, if you like trout fishing. Great weather, quiet, peaceful, etc. Spent quite a bit of money, too. The best part of the whole thing? I MADE A RESERVATION ON LINE! Woo Hoo! Right down to the specific campsite! Worked like a charm. Apparently MO has no problem figuring this out, so why can't our state parks? You can easily review their system on the MO state parks website. You should check it out. In all seriousness though, who should I call or write to get a straight answer on why OK doesn't have this or a similar system? Feel free to email me at the email listed.

From Darren Engelhart on 05/29/12

OMG ! here it is the Reservation System for Oklahoma State parks.get a 50 dollar tent and drive to Park on Sunday and wait fore some one leaving.then throw the tent down and pay for Sunday through Sunday even though you are not going to be out toll Friday.REDICULOUSE!!!!. That's how they revenue for seven days a week, and everyone else gets the Shaft!

From Miller on 05/29/12

We would love to come RVing at Lake Murray, but have the same issue as others - there is no reservation system. It is very difficult to drive pulling a camper to find all these tents in the RV spots. Is this a factor in keeping vacationers from coming to your lake? There needs to be some type of system in place that you can get a spot and not to allow your 'resident' campers to keep their RV there all year round, leaving for only a day or so. Murray is such a beautiful place - if you can ever get a spot to enjoy.

From Rylee David on 05/27/12

My daddy is a park ranger at Lake Murray. I visit him sometimes. It is a really good Park, I love it!

From tommy ivo on 05/24/12

to make rental on cabins is a nightmare,we really enjoy the rustic setting of the place but we will not ever go again, because the front desk staff,if it wasnt for them it would be great and also they will not let you in the cabins until 3 or 6 pm but dont tell you that until you get there at ten oclock in the morning,so i guess they want you to go to ardmore and kill5 to 8 hrs driving around aimlessly until they say the cabin is ready, then when you go back sometimes they tell you its not vacant or its been rented, they need to get rid of the staff ,they wont ever get any money from us again, what a joke that isnt funny.

From LEILONY on 05/24/12

I have a question... if I want to go tent camping do I have to make reservation? more than 1 family

From Kristie on 05/18/12

Regarding comment from Mark on 4/30/12. He is right. The explanation provided for lack of a reservation system is a joke. I live in Texas and many of our state parks reserve spots. You can't reserve a very specific site, just the type, so which one you get is first come first serve, but at least you're guaranteed a spot after you've packed, made the long trip, and taken vacation from work. Some of our non-State Parks even allow you to reserve a very specific numbered site. So it can't be that hard. I'll be traveling to Lake Murray to camp with my family and another family the first weekend of June. If we are unable to secure a spot due to lack of a reservation system, we will NEVER come back. It's the 21st century. It's the computer age. Get with the times.

From TravelOK.com Staff on 05/14/12

From Mark on 04/30/12

I have to comment on the post from Jeremy on 10 24 2011, and the related response. I have the same issue. I live in OK, and will not visit a state park that is more than an hour or so away because I don't know for sure if there will be an available site at the destination park. The argument that it - is very difficult to make a reservation system for so many different types of sites - is ridiculous. TX has one, AR has one, NM has one, etc, etc. There are many reservation systems already available. Subscribe to one and get it set up. Then maybe I can start enjoying my own state, instead of travelling to the neighbor's for my vacations.

From TravelOK.com Staff on 04/13/12

From Adam on 03/26/12

I have a question. There are primitive camp sites at Lake Murray between Marietta Landing and Group Camp 3 that were blocked off last year. My question is, are they still blocked off? If so, why? That is my favorite spot to camp there and if you can't camp there anymore I'd just as soon go elsewhere.

From TravelOK.com Staff on 03/13/12

Chad, we're so glad that you're going to Lake Murray State Park for Spring Break! We would suggest that you give the park a call and speak to someone there about wireless and cell phone coverage in that area for the most accurate information. Best wishes, don't work too hard on your break and thank you for using TravelOK.com.

From Chad on 03/12/12

We are heading your way either tomorrow or Wednesday. curious of how busy tent camping is during spring break and also if there is wireless internet access available in the park? If no internet, how well does ATT wireless coverage fare in the park? Unfortunately, vacation doesnt start until Thursday, so comically enough my office will be in a tent the next few days.

State Park was marvelous. several years ago. Your web site stinks...I can't get any information on the lodge or make a reservation.

From kyle250f on 11/29/11

Stay in the cabins, have campfires and ride your heart out. As far as trails and dirt bike riding area goes...it feels like about 1000 acres, smaller than red river motorcycle trails, the one near turtle hill golf course. but it doesn't feel much smaller. Definitely a plethora of trails. Plenty for a weekend, good for kids learning to ride also. You will rarely come upon a trail that you have to turn around or find another way due to difficulty, but it does happen. The atv and dirt bike trails are NOT at the cabin and state park lodge area. they are on the other side of the lake. you will be trailering or trucking there each day if you are not camping at the trail place itself.

From Park Employee on 10/30/11

First come, first serve is in place for a reason because with busy parks it is very difficult to make a reservation system for so many different types of sites. The reservation system our state parks use, mostly for cabins but at some parks they use if for RV sites, is very complex and adding in a way to reserve all sites, both tent and RV, is very difficult and can make it very stressful for office staff to keep dozens of reservations straight. Please be patient and always call ahead. Also remember, if this park is full there is always another park that has sites open. You'd be surprised to find new favorite places if you would venture off from your old favorite place!

From Jeremy on 10/24/11

I will not return until there is a reservation system. We drove in from out of state only to find all spots were full. Asked a patrolling ranger, and he pointed us to the last tent spot--next to 25-30 preteens with no adults who screamed till 3AM. And I did follow the weak instructions of the office to call the morning we leave. They guessed there would be campsites. But they can guess wrong. I still have to take vacation from work. I still have to pack and drive to the park. And then wonder if I have to take my family to a hotel I can't really afford. Terrible, terrible, get a reservation system like everyone else. I would gladly pay more!!!!

From Beau Jones on 08/30/11

Ridiculous...first-come/first-serve is the most antiquated and stupid way of making reservations...you can't!

From Kevin Hager on 08/16/11

Nice lake, been there twice, but I agree with Earny and Karen. I don't see why the OK State Parks cannot at least turn this over to Reserve America or Recreation.Gov., since they have no interest in building their own website to book reservations. I am not going to drive 2 hours North again from the Metroplex in my Motorhome that gets 6-7 MPG at best only to roll the dice when I get there and maybe get a spot I can fit into. when all the larger sites are taken by tents with nobody in them. I guess, I will just have to keep visiting the COE parks in TX. Out of state visitors cannot compete with the locals for campsites, but I guess we can spend our money elsewhere.

From EARNY GORDON on 08/09/11

Love to camp there when you can get a spot. They take up the RV spots with tents so it presents a problem when you drive 2-3 hours only to find all the RV spots have a bunch of tents in them.

From Rhonda Speigel Wayman on 07/23/11

Just want to say, my family has been having our family reunion at Lake Murray for 30+ consecutive years. As well as several years before that. Love it always have a Great time..we sometimes have up to 50 campers, we just camp a little clpser. Looking foreward to another year of tradition.

From Karen on 06/24/11

Great lake to camp at, IF you can even find a spot. It seems that now all the people that get the good spots are taking tents and paying for the spots under another person's name and not even camping there, but just saving their spot. That sure limits anyone else from even getting a spot, and forget camping on the water. Reservations for water spots should be started up to allow EVERYONE a chance to camp at a water spot.

From TravelOK.com Staff on 06/23/11

Jason, as a general rule all camping is first come, first served in Oklahoma State Parks. You might want to call the park directly for more details since every park has a little bit of a different routine. We just spent the weekend at Lake Murray SP tent camping. it was beautiful and a wonderful experience for our 4 year olds first camping trip. We were surprised to see pay showers -.50 for 3 min but the facilities were as clean as to be expected and rival any State Parks we have stayed at previously. Lots of resonably priced water activities as well as very nice swim beaches and lots and lots of trees! This is definitly on our go-to list for the furture!

I have so many good memories of this lake. It is truly one of the most beautiful and peaceful places around. A great affordable place to take the whole family or just you and a loved one. Great fishing and camping, not too far from town. My wife and i go here at least once a year.

i spent every summer as a kid at lake murray and hadn't been back for many years until 2009. i had so many fond memories of the rock tower campsite area and had a wonderful time showing my daughter around and telling her about my summers at the lake. we decided to stay at one of the cabins and had an absolute ball while we were there. the staff were all so wonderful, my daughter and i enjoyed the pool, snow cone stand, the paddle boats and the water trampoline. lake murray will definitely be our pick for our mother/daughter vacation again this year and for many years to come.

Very nice park. Good sites for large RV's. Quiet, but only a short drive to town for needed supplies.
