Little Sahara State Park
A prime example of Oklahoma's diverse terrain, Little Sahara State Park boasts over 1,600 acres of sand dunes, ranging in height from 25 to 75 feet. The vast dunes have formed over time from terrace deposits, remnants of prehistoric times when the Cimarron River flowed over the entire area. Located south of Waynoka in northwest Oklahoma, the park offers amenities such as 86 RV sites with water and electricity, 143 tent sites, picnic areas and showers. Concessions are offered in the park seasonally, and groceries and fuel are available nearby.
The main attraction at Little Sahara State Park is dune buggy and ATV riding across the sand dunes. Visitors can either bring their own ATV or rent one off-site by a private vendor. Either way, visitors will have a blast in this mini-desert atmosphere, known as one of the best riding spots for ATVs in the Midwest. The cost is $10 a day per driver to enter the dunes. Those who bring their own vehicle to Little Sahara State Park are required to follow park rules and regulations.

Me Kim and been! Sand! Good! Need sand? Here!
Travis, Little Sahara State Park does not offer weekend passes, but there are yearly passes available, which are $200 for the first family member and $125 for each additional immediate family member. Please call 580-824-1471 if you have any questions. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!
Is it $10 per day drivers fee or can you get a weekend pass?
Dane, the $10 fee is charged for each driver, so you could drive your wife or child with just the $10 fee. If you and your wife wanted to take turns driving, it would be $10 for each of you. Camping fees are separate. Sites are $12 per night and sites with water and electric hookups are $20 per night. Sites are available on a first come, first serve basis, but cabins and lodge rooms can be reserved in advance. If you have any questions, please call 580-824-1471. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!
Does the $10 fee cover camp spots and everything. it states $10 per rider. if my wife and child don't ride am i still required to pay the entry fee for them?
Tyson, you can rent an ORV at Stewart's ATV & Buggy. It is close enough to the park that you will be able to drive there, and half day rentals range from $125-$475, while full day rentals range from $200-$775. You can find out more information by clicking on Stewart's ATV & Buggy, located under 'See Related Listings' above. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

Brandy, unfortunately there are no full hookups available at Little Sahara State Park, but there are two on-site dump stations. If you'll click the red link on the right that says 'View Little Sahara State Park Map,' you'll see the general layout of the park, but it does not show individual campsites. For more information, please call 580-824-1471. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!
Are there any camp spots at Little Sahara State Park that have septic as well as water/electric? Is there a map online of the RV camps spots? Thanks!
Ashley, both tents and RVs are welcome to stay on any site they wish. Keep in mind that all Oklahoma state park campsites are available on a first come, first serve basis. Happy camping and thank you for using TravelOK.com!
Are the campsites with electric water geared towards RVs or can tents camp there as well?
Jase, Little Sahara State Park is open year round, but some campgrounds are closed during the winter. We'll post the latest information on this page under the 'read more' button on the description. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!
Is the park open year round?
Philip, Oklahoma's state parks are all on a set fee system of $12 per night for a site without hookups, $20 per night for a site with water and electric hookups and $23 per night for a site with full hookups. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!

Do you know where and how much it would cost to rent equiptment?
Kadin, unfortunately Little Sahara State Park does not have cabins. However, there are tent and RV camping sites available that start at $12 a night. Nearby Stewart's Buggy Shop most likely has a 10 foot whip for rent or sale. You can contact them at 580-824-0327. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!
that goes behined the ATV & dune buggie
how much is a cabin rentel? and where can i find a ten foot whip?
PJ, a primitive tent or RV camp site is $12.00 per night. For a semi-modern site, which includes electric and water, the rate is $20.00 per night. If you’d like a modern site, which includes electric, sewer and water, the rate is $23.00 per night. Some parks offer premium sites, like those at water’s edge, for an additional $5.00 fee per night. Currently, we do not have a reservation system in place for campsites, but that is something that we hope to implement this year. For more information, please contact Little Sahara State Park directly at 580-824-1471. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!
Been there several times love it its camping showers and restrooms don't have to b perfect need to reserve a spot for rattle snake fest tent camping spot Friday threw Sunday who do I call and how much
Thompsons, we're so glad that you have had such good experiences at Little Sahara State Park! As to your winterization question, the park staff will shut off the water and close the campgrounds during the winter to keep pipes from bursting, etc. The north campgrounds will be closed from the dates above usually through sometime around March. For more information, please contact the park directly at 580-824-1471. Thank you for using TravelOK.com!
We visit LS 10 times a year on average and have been very impressed each time, for they have made improvements each time we go back. It's funny to see such negativity from others when I observe the staff taking care of the place, and then see fellow campers leaving trash behind when there's PLENTY of dump locations AND they're not cumbersome to get to or smelly and filthy. I'm not sure what others are expecting when they go camping, however I'm always impressed with running water, doable facility cleanliness and your very own fire wood delivery guy!! HECK YEAH thanks Clint! Even in below freezing weather we have a blast and and it's not the spirit that keeps us warm and fuzzy.LoL It's the experience EVERY time. Question, what is the winterization process and how long does it take? We were hoping to visit Dec 15th at North Camp. We're actually heading home from there today!
Efrain, no OHV stickers are required at Little Sahara State Park. For additional questions, please contact the state park directly at 580-824-1471. Best wishes and thank you for using TravelOK.com!
Will a TX OHV sticker be accepted to ride at Little Sahara or do I need to purchase a Oklahoma OHV sticker. I do not see a requirement to have a OHV sticker in the requirements and rules statements information in the web page. I am under the assumption that no OHV sticker purchase is necessary to ride at the sand dunes. Please advise.
Regina, The picture in question shows two adults, the helmet law applies to individuals under the age of 18.
Efrain, Little Sahara State Park is such a fun place to visit. We're sure you'll have a great time. Unfortunately, none of the RV sites offer sewer hookups, but there are two dump stations within the park. The sand dunes are a year-round attraction, so it's hard to say when the best time would be. Of course, there will be less people visiting during the week than on the weekends. Have a great time at Little Sahara State Park and thank you for using TravelOK.com!
Never been there and I am looking forward to visit and stay camping 4 or 5 days in a RV Toyhauler. When is the best time to visit? And it there are available full RV connection, electricity water and black water disposal connection without moving the RV to a dump station?
The bring in all this money, but can't keep the navigational becon working? even on busy weekends its off!
We drive 6 hours twice a year to visit this place. however, each time we visit, we learn more rules about the park and sometime won't be let into the park. Why aren't the rules posted online?
Picture #29 features two men at Little Sahara on ATV's not wearing a helmet. Mixed message??
Why not a simple table listing campgrouns, fees, amend ties---rather than have to go to each park?
Melissa - The best way to find out about lodging available at the park is to call the park directly at 580-824-1471. Simply ask for rental information and the park staff will help you!
who do you call to rent a cabin or rv that is on site ?
Bryan, all vehicles riding the dunes must have the proper equipment, including the whip. If you have further questions, please feel free to call the park and the staff would be happy to assist you in planning a really fun trip to Little Sahara. Best wishes and thank you for visiting TravelOK.com.

BEWARE of Advantage rental property - this guy is a slum lord & a liar!! We made this mistake just last weekend, and wished someone had warned us. Don't let the pictures fool you - It was horrible!!
Haven't been since late '60 loved every day hope to get back someday
21 years and still haven't rode in the dunes. Kinda pissed but little Sahara is my next step!
Anybody stayed at the hotels / cabins there? Traveling with someone that is OCD and need to find a place that is pretty nice and really clean. Places don't look too great from the pictures so we booked a hotel in Woodward. Sure would be nice not to have to haul 50 minutes before we start riding.
campfires in portable fire pits allowed?
Derek, there is cell service available at the park but sometimes it's not very consistent. Some areas of the park are better than others and if you speak with the park staff, they can give you some tips about that. Have a great time at Little Sahara State Park and thank you for using TravelOK.com.

Are you able to pre-rent spots ahead of time on the Internet?
Husband all ways went with a bunch of guys, finally one year he took me...It's a 6hr drive and we went 3 weekends in a row. I couldn't get enough. We now go at least 3x's a year and each year we bring someone new down with us. We now have a huge following. The camp sites are clean and the bathrooms always seem to be well taken care of. Just a shot out to everyone. If you drop your water bottle or broke something out on the dunes.. pick it up.. lets keep our duens clean and fun!!!
First time and LOVED IT! We will be coming back regularly. Are the shower facilities open year round?
Sally, there are several rental properties in Waynoka that sound like they would work for you. If you do a search on our site for Waynoka, you'll get 10 listings that come up. You might want to check out Bunkhouse or Advantage Rental Properties. Have a great time at Little Sahara State Park and thank you for using TravelOK.com.
I was wondering if there are cabing near to rent while we stay there, if not, where is the closest/ best place to stay while down?
Greg, great questions and we can help! Two-wheel dirt bikes are allowed and the spark arresters are not required. The park is open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. We hope you enjoy a visit to Little Sahara State Park soon and thank for using TravelOK.com.
Are 2 wheel dirt bikes allowed? Are spark arresters USFS required? 365 days open? Your article mentions ATV a lot, but not bikes.
Edwin, thank you for your comment and we have updated the listing with guidelines directly from the park. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact the park at the number or e-mail address listed above. Have a great time at Little Sahara State Park and thank you for using TravelOK.com.
Those who bring their own vehicle to Little Sahara State Park are required to have a whip attached, extending 10 feet from the ground to the top of the whip, and a 6-ft by 12-ft flag on the end of the whip. All dune buggies and 4 x 4 vehicles must have a roll bar. Did you read that 6 foot by 12 foot flag !!!!! PLEASE UPDATE YOUR INFORMATION!!
Been there duned that since before I was one. Love the place and how much is getting upgraded. Alot of memories from and still to come with my Sahara family
I love going to the little sahara. However, the state side has very bad facilities. The showers water temperature was over 130 degree's, it was scalding hot and could not be adjusted. the showers are have no curtains. also, the toilets have no locks and never got restocked. for $10/day to enter, they should have plenty of money to keep up. they kept the gate way over staffed all weekend too. it's not going to stop me from going back, we drive 6 hours to go. it would just be nice to step it up a notch.
Lucy, a camp site with electric and water will run $20.00 per night. The sites are first come, first served. If you have other questions about the park, please call them directly using the contact information above. We hope you have a great time at this one-of-a-kind place and thank you for using TravelOK.com.
Looking at coming to Little Sahara for the first time. Can't seem to find how much it costs for an electric/water campsite. Any help???
iv'e been going to little sahra since 1982, enjoy the up grades they have done over the years.
I visited this place as a kid. I remember waiting by the restrooms one afternoon when a relative went in. I heard something in the brush by the restroom and went to investigate. I'll never forget what peered around a bush and startled me, but no one believes me to this day. Is there any possibility that there are moose in the area? I know I didn't dream this. It was close enough to touch and frightened both of us enough that we went running in opposite directions. It was HUGE.
No. Little Sahara State Park is not closing.
Are you guy's closing down the dunes
Greg, the camping fees start at 12.00 per day. Please visit our State Parks page FAQ area for more information about camping in state parks in Oklahoma. Thank you for using TravelOK.com and have a great camping season!
