First Day Hike

Mark your calendar for a visit to Robbers Cave State Park near Wilburton on January 1st for a free guided hike. Meet at the Butterfield Room at the Belle Starr View Lodge at 9:00am. Hikers can choose from two different hikes. The Belle Starr Loop Trail is a moderate to strenuous trail that is 2 miles in length and will take approximately 1.5+ hours to complete. The Coon Ridge Trail is 1.83 miles in length and will also take approximately 1.5 hours to complete. Children must be carefully supervised along both trails due to the elevation changes. Be sure to bring your binoculars, a camera, water and appropriate dress for a cool weather hike. Before the hike, there will be hot chocolate, coffee, water, and trail mix provided. Immediately after the hikes hotdogs, corn bread and black eyed peas will be served for lunch. They will also have a drawing for two free hiking sticks with a Robbers Cave hiking medallion. The drawing is open for First Day Hike participants only.
There will be a First Day Hayride starting at 12pm that will leave from the parking lot of the Belle Starr View Lodge. There is no fee for the Hayride.
This event is held in conjunction with America's State Parks First Day Hikes initiative that will take place in all 50 states. The First Day Hikes offer individuals and families an opportunity to begin the New Year rejuvenating and connecting with the outdoors by taking a healthy hike on the first day of the new year.
