2nd Annual Yacht Rock Party Benefits Victim of Domestic Violence
By Tourism Industry Partner
DJ Neu and the Oklahoma Victory Dolls will be hosting the 2nd Annual Yacht Rock Charity Fundraiser on Saturday, July 9th at 7pm atthe Prohibition Room, located at the historic Gold Dome, on 1112 Northwest 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
This year's event will go to benefit Lori, aka Lmbr Timber Onu of Emerald Coast Roller Derby (ECRD) from Milton, Florida. Lori was victim of a severe domestic violence attack on April 23, 2011. She is having surgery to repair broken eye sockets, nose and cheek bones. She faces a long recovery and mounting medical bills with no medical insurance. For additional information about Lori, please visit http://www.facebook.com/LoriAid.
The event will be at The Prohibition Room, whom has been kind of enough to allow us to use their space for this event and will feature: Comedian Ryan Drake as host and emcee, Yacht-themed Caricatures by Spencer Tracy, Cupcakes by Luxy Cupcakes, Domestic Violence information booth provided by the Oklahoma Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, Photobooth by Anna Lee Photography (featured photographer) and as as always the soft rock will be provided by DJ Neu.
The sponsors for the event include: Switchblade Skate Company, Luxy Cupcakes, AndDevour and Anna Lee Photography
Last year's Yacht Rock party event was a success in that it raised money and awareness for skater Tequila Mockingbird aka Tahira Johnson. Tequila, a veteran Chicago roller derby player for the Windy City Rollers, fell and seriously injured her spinal cord during a bout. This year's event is expected to be bigger as the goal for the fundraiser is $5,000.00.
Yacht Rock is another name for the adult-contemporary musical movement in the late 1970's and the early 1980's. It was defined mostly by its smooth sound. Popular Yacht Rockers include: Kenny Loggins, the Doobie Brothers, and Steely Dan. Proper Yacht Rock attire is defined as: Captain's Hats, Short Shorts, Hawaiian Shirts, Striped Knee Socks, Boat shoes/loafers. For the ladies, they might want to consider: Sailor dresses, feathered hair and hoop earings. The gentlemen should highly consider a nice mustache, visible chest hair and shirts with extra wide collars.
