“A Very Belly Christmas” To Benefit Family Violence Shelter
By Tourism Industry Partner
An evening of dance, music, and art will benefit the Women’s Resource Center’s Family Violence Shelter at 7:30 p. m. on Saturday, Dec. 4th .
“A Very Belly Christmas” will feature long time Norman musical artist Jahruba with RonJohnJahruba along with belly dance by Natanasuta and the Norman Belly Dance Club; African dance by the AFAM 4213 troupe. Plus, Moroccan music by Amina Benalioulhaj, poetry by Lauren Zuniga, and an art show and sale. Menu includes wine, chocolate, and goodies for the kids. All artists have donated their talents in honor of the Season and family.
The Women’s Resource Center’s shelter has provided thousands of women and children in Norman and Cleveland County a safe refuge from violent home environments since 1980. They often arrive with nothing and the shelter provides all needs from food to clothing for 30 days. They also help connect women with community resources to find safe, stable housing.
“On average we see 350 women and children a year. Last year we served only 220., noted JoAnn Smith, WRC Director. “This is due to women having to stay longer than 30 days before they can establish a safe home because the economy has forced the agencies who help them to cut back on services.”
Admission is $10, kids 12 and under free and free child care offered.
