Back in the 1870’s, young Frank Phillips and his brothers, sisters and parents would make the trip each Sunday up the road to church which was the First Methodist Church of Conway, Iowa.   Frank and his brother L.E. always loved the chime of the old bell that hung in the church belfry.    In 1919, the church burned to the ground and the Phillips boys made the trip back to Iowa to buy that bell that reminded them so much of fond childhood memories.   In the 1930’s, the bell called Philson Farms (the ranch home of L.E. Phillips) its home and stayed there for many years until the ranch was sold and the bell came to Woolaroc.    Today, that bell sits on the grounds of Woolaroc as you walk from the Museum down to the Lodge…another piece of the Phillips family history…..another piece of the “magic of Woolaroc”!
