The Broken Arrow Arts and Humanities Council is giving people a reason to go out on Tuesday nights – free outdoor concerts in June!  “Tuesdays In The Park” features a variety of musical genres showcasing local and regional bands every Tuesday in June at 7 p.m. at Central Park (1500 S. Main St.) in Downtown Broken Arrow.

“Tuesdays In The Park” offers a variety of performances - including bluegrass gospel, classic rock, country and jazz for music-lovers of all ages.

Broken Arrow Arts kicks off their month-long concert series on June 7th with the bluegrass gospel band Salt Creek.  The following Tuesday, June 14th, features the fabulous Mid Life Crisis band playing classic rock songs.  On June 21st, CJ Greco will be the featured band for country music night.  The final concert on June 28th will showcase jazz music with the Spectrum Band joined by Starr Fisher.

Salt Creek is a bluegrass gospel band of five men playing 10 different instruments including the banjo, harmonica and mandolin – just to name a few.  The band, all originally from the Tulsa area, has played together for more than 16 years.

Their acappella singing mixed into a program, creates a variety of different sounds for the group.  Vocals are one of Salt Creek’s strengths as their four-part harmonies are pleasing to the trained – or untrained ear.

Mid Life Crisis – actually better known as the Fabulous Mid Life Crisis Band – has been pleasing crowds for many years and has created quite a following of devoted fans.  The band is known for playing the music of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Van Morrison, The Eagles and a host of One Hit Wonders from the rock-and-roll days of the ‘60’s and ’70’s.  The band originally started in 1995 with five musicians from the Tulsa area and is now a seven-member group playing classic rock throughout Northeast Oklahoma.

CJ Greco got his start in Omaha, Nebraska, where he found his roots playing blues, southern rock, and country with the Hayseed Cowboys.  He opened for artists such as Lee Ann Womack and Reckless Kelly.  Since 2009, CJ Greco has lived in the Oklahoma City area and has carefully pieced together a country band of four members.

The Spectrum Band continues to keep the musical tradition of Earl Clark alive.  Mr. Clark, who passed away in June 2010, started his first band in the late ‘70’s.  Today, Spectrum is still a well-loved Oklahoma band known for jazz among other genres.  Lead female vocalist, Starr Fisher, has performed with the band for more than 16 years.  Earl Clark discovered Ms. Fisher’s great voice when she was just a teenager from Muskogee.

Since then she has performed at various venues such as B.B. King’s Blues Club in Las Vegas but continues her singing career with Spectrum.

“Tuesdays In The Park” has become a “signature” event for the Broken Arrow Arts & Humanities Council.  These four concerts are free and open to the public thanks to the following sponsors: Northeastern State University – BA, Citizens Security Bank, Arvest, Cox Communications, BA Convention & Visitors Bureau, AVB, Windstream Communications, Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.  Broken Arrow’s Parks & Recreation Department has been instrumental in providing staging and maintenance for the concert series as well.

People are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets to Central Park and enjoy a summer night filled with great live music.
