Central Oklahoma’s Event Calendar June 2011

CENTRAL OKLAHOMA – The Red Earth Native American Cultural Festival celebrates its silver anniversary June 3-5 at the Cox Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City. More than 1,200 American Indian artists and dancers will gather to celebrate the richness and diversity of their heritage with the world. Yukon’s Chisholm Trail Crawfish Festival is June 4-5 at the Kirkpatrick Family Farm. The free, family-friendly event celebrates the history of the infamous Chisholm Trail with a fun Cajun flair. Enjoy living history re-enactors of the Old West, Cajun foods, live Cajun and blues bands, crawfish racing, crawfish eating contests, Civil War demonstrations, vendors, crafters, Kids Kreative Korral and more. Sample some of Oklahoma’s finest wines during Stockyards City’s Wines of the West festival June 11. From noon to 5 p.m., browse the historic district to get a taste of Oklahoma-made wines including StableRidge Winery in Stroud. Prizes will be given away along with a commemorative wine glass with each ticket purchase. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at the event or online. For more info: stockyardscity.org.

Visit Midwest City for the Tinker Inter-Tribal Pow Wow June 11. From 1 to 11 p.m. at Joe B. Barnes Regional Park, experience this vibrant and fascinating culture by honoring the Veteran Warriors from Oklahoma's Native American tribes through traditional dance, singing, art, jewelry, food and a children's tent. The Chandler Chamber of Commerce hosts the Hog Wild BBQ & Chrome Fest at Tilghman Park June 17-18. The event is a Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned Oklahoma State Championship BBQ contest along with activities for the whole family including vendors, crafters, parade, children’s activities, fireworks, car and bike show and live entertainment including Pake McEntire and VooDoo OKC.
