Chevy Bricktown Banjo Bash Part of 54th Annual Convention of the Fretted Instrument Guild of America

During the weekend of July 13th thru 16th, the Bricktown district of downtown Oklahoma City will come alive with the music of nearly 300 musicians who will be participating in the 54th annual convention of the Fretted Instrument Guild of America. As a special feature of the FIGA convention, numerous banjo performances will take place during the daytime hours as part of the CHEVY BRICKTOWN BANJO BASH.
The Fretted Instrument Guild of America (FIGA) in a non-profit musical organization with a worldwide membership of banjo, ukulele, mandolin and guitar players and fans. Hosted by the American Banjo Museum, the FIGA 2011 OKC convention will be a unique musical happening in downtown Oklahoma City featuring some of the world’s most renown jazz banjo artists including Cynthia Sayer, Ken Aoki, Buddy Wachter, Debbie Schreyer, Doug Mattocks, Georgette Twain, the Mickey Finn Show and many others.
In addition to evening concerts to be held at the Sheraton Bricktown Hotel each night of FIGA 2011 OKC, daytimes will find different venues in Bricktown reverberating with the magical plucking and strumming of America’s Instrument - the banjo - as part of the CHEVY BRICKTOWN BANJO BASH.
Sponsored by the Oklahoma Chevy Team Dealers, daytime performances in Bricktown will take place between 11AM and 4PM on both Friday & Saturday, July 15th & 16th with venues to include the American Banjo Museum, the Bricktown Brewery, the Spaghetti Warehouse and the Bourbon Street Café. There will be no admission charge for these performances.
Additionally, on Saturday, July 16th from 1PM - 4PM the parking lot at the corner of Sheridan and Oklahoma in Bricktown will host a very special outdoor concert. This family friendly event is free to the public. Visitors are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and enjoy performances by the All Stars Youth Banjo Band, Ken Aoki, Cynthia Sayer, Doug Mattocks, Debbie Schreyer and the Mickey Finn Show. (Rain location for this event will be the Sheraton Hotel)
Evening concerts for the FIGA 2011 OKC convention begin at 7PM on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 14th, 15th & 16th in the Century Ballroom at the Sheraton Hotel in Bricktown. Performers vary each evening with a different program each night. Admission for evening concerts is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 for individual concerts. Three day concert admission tickets are also available at a cost of $25 for adults and for $10 children under 12.
