Christmas on the Western Frontier Found in El Reno
By Tourism Industry Partner
On Thursday, December 2nd, downtown El Reno will be bustling with Christmas fun. The festivities begin at 6:00 p.m. with an old-fashioned Christmas parade. “Miracle on Main Street” is this year’s theme. Almost 50 organizations have signed up to participate in this community parade. The parade float entries include churches, businesses, organizations, Dance Etiquette Dancers, the El Reno Cruisers classic car club, Mercy Hospital El Reno, The Salvation Army, School Bands, motorcycle clubs, horse groups, Santa and his helper, elected officials and others.
The Tree lighting ceremony will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Petree plaza with a community prayer from Father Mark Mason of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Special Citizen, Ms. Ann Biggert-Smith, will light the community Christmas tree and will also be grand marshal of the parade (news release below). Lincoln Elementary Honor Choir will provide special entertainment. Gene and Brooke Stroman are masters of ceremony for the evening.
The downtown business open house will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. You can stroll through the downtown for special holiday promotions and sales, to sample treats at the businesses, discover great treasures, ride the trolley, visit with Santa and enjoy carolers. From 4:00-9:00 p.m., The Salvation Army will host a FREE Christmas Craft Project at 201 South Bickford.
The Spend Christmas at Home promotion will be in full swing during the evening festivities. (Promotion description) Participating businesses hand out tickets to all store visitors and shoppers. Businesses bring their tickets to Petree Plaza for the prize drawings. After the Tree Lighting Ceremony at 7pm, Main Street will conduct drawings to give away a total of $1,500 in Main Street Bucks, which can be redeemed at any of the participating businesses for cash value towards merchandise.
Please join us in downtown El Reno for the food, fun and Christmas festivities. You will experience “hometown” America at its best!
