Firehouse Art Center to Host Family Fun Night
By Tourism Industry Partner
NORMAN, OK – The Firehouse Art Center presents Family Fun Night during the 2nd Friday Circuit of Art, January 14, from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. This come-and-go event is free and open to the public.
Adults and children of all ages are invited to the Firehouse Art Center. Children will be invited to sculpt or hand build any type of animal in the ceramics studio. Once their animal is complete, they are asked to place the animal on tables set up in the gallery. The whole concept of the Family Fun Night is inspired by building communities. Children from the community will add their animal to the community of animals already in place. These clay animal communities will be on display throughout January and February. After the Family Fun Night, Firehouse volunteers will fire the clay pieces, which will be available to be picked up at the next 2nd Friday. There will also be an opportunity for children to draw animals, and an area in the gallery where the drawings will be displayed as well. In addition to the children’s activities, adults will be encouraged to watch clay throwing demonstrations in the ceramics studio.
“Last time we held an event like this, it was an enormous success. Everyone had a wonderful time creating with clay. Once more, we would like to invite children and adults to come and be creative. The Firehouse Art Center has one of the best ceramics facilities in the state and we would like to share the joy of creating with clay,” said Douglas Shaw Elder, Executive Director of the Firehouse Art Center.
The Firehouse Art Center is funded in part by select grants from the Oklahoma Arts Council, Norman Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the City of Norman Parks and Recreation Department, as well as a corporate sponsorship from Republic Bank and Trust. Memberships to the Firehouse Art Center are available by calling 329-4523.
