Historic Fort Gibson Taking Reservations for Candlelight Tours
By Tourism Industry Partner
FORT GIBSON-Fort Gibson Historic Site is taking reservations for the 2010 edition of the Candlelight Tour. The 2010 tour will be presented Saturday, December 11. Admission is $7.00, and reservations are required.
This year's production is entitled 'This Land is Whose Land?' and is set in 1824. Visitors will get to see the fort during its first year, and hear the views of the officers, enlisted men, government officials and tribal leaders about what is happening in the surrounding region. 1824 was a turbulent time for what would become eastern Oklahoma. While it appeared that the area had become the western part of Arkansas Territory, the question was by no means permanently settled. There were many who wanted it set aside for other purposes. Whatever happened to the region, the army and Fort Gibson were considered necessary to bring peace and order.
Tours will begin 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., with groups starting approximately every fifteen minutes. For reservations or more information call (918) 478-4088.
