Japanese Inspired Art by JUURI at @1614
By Tourism Industry Partner
(May 9, 2011) Oklahoma City - MIDWESTMEDIA will host its monthly gallery show “@1614” on Friday, May 13 from 7:00 -11:00 p.m., featuring the Japanese inspired art of Norman artist JUURI. The show, entitled mirage -maboroshi-, will be JUURI’s first 2011 solo show of her body mixed-media art. JUURI’s pieces are inspired by the beauty of Japanese women, conveyed through an unrestrained elegance, which allows the viewer an interesting perspective on the allure of Japanese culture.
“I am very excited to be featuring the work of JUURI this month,” said Christopher Hunt, host of MIDWESTMEDIA’s @1614 series. “She is the first portrait artist that we’ve showcased @1614, and her work is simply stunning. JUURI has a bit of a west coast influence that I think art lovers here in Oklahoma will appreciate.”
For each @1614, Hunt produces a video which showcases the artist, their style and art. “We produce the video so that the public can get to know the artist and their work even before the event. The videos can be viewed at www.at1614.com.” Hunt said.
Plaza District businesses team up to host LIVE on the PLAZA which allows local talents, businesses and residents to socialize and exhibit the progress in this growing urban district. Various open houses and live entertainment offer visitors a lively block-party atmosphere.
“LIVE on the PLAZA helps get the word out about rising local artists, as well as promote the success of local businesses; it’s a win-win,” said Hunt.
@1614 is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served during the artist’s reception.
