Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art to Host Off the Wall 2011
By Tourism Industry Partner
SHAWNEE – Your heart thumps as the tickets are shuffled. One is drawn and your name is announced. You leap from your chair. Time moves in slow motion as you glance around, trying to make up your mind. Which way should you go? Deciding, you race across the room, sweat dripping from your brow--you only have 30 seconds! Finally, reaching up--you grab your favorite artwork off the wall!
It’s time again for the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art’s fun, fast-paced fundraiser, “Off the Wall!” The event takes place on Friday, April 29, at 6:30p.m. For $50, you receive admission for two to the event and one ticket for your choice of one art work created by an Oklahoma artist.
The artworks that are offered at the event have been contributed by over 30 artists, including Ben Harjo, Patrick Riley, Megan Clement, Frank Howard, Beth Wilhelm, Cliff Lehman, LeAnne Henry Wright, Nelda Ward, Genny Smith Wildebrandt, and Becky Emerson Carlberg. The variety of art and media presented for Off the Wall is stunning, ranging from traditional landscapes and still life paintings, to post-modern masterpieces and fun sculptural works. To view a sampling of the artworks, visit www.mgmoa.org/offthewall.
To start your evening at 6:30 p.m.--sink your teeth into sumptuous shrimp and other hors d’oeuvres and scrumptious desserts provided by the Junior Service League members and MGMoA Volunteer Society. Sip a glass of wine while listening to talented folk musicians Ed and Karen Petitt and browsing the art works offered.
Yet, at 7:30 p.m.--be ready! The pace speeds up with the drawings for the artworks. Each time a ticket is drawn, you will have just 30 seconds to choose a piece of art “off the wall.” To keep everyone guessing, the artists have been asked to sign the pieces on the back, so you will only know who created your artwork after you have chosen the piece. Special guest, Ken Busby, Executive Director of Tulsa Arts and Humanities Council will emcee the event.
If you want a better chance to get the art piece that you especially like, the $50 ticket may be upgraded by paying $25 or $50 more. Random drawings of tickets begin with the upgraded $100 tickets. To purchase a ticket, visit www.mgmoa.org/offthewall, call (405) 878-5604, or stop by the museum at 1900 W. MacArthur St. (on the campus of St. Gregory’s University) in Shawnee. All proceeds from this event benefit the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art 2011-2012 Special Exhibition Season.
