Mabee-Gerrer Museum Serving Up Banana Splits
By Tourism Industry Partner
SHAWNEE—Membership has its privileges at the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art! The museum is honoring all of its members with old fashioned banana splits, an entertaining talk corresponding with the current exhibit and amazing door prizes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12. Not a museum member? You can join during the membership social and enjoy the festivities. Individual memberships begin at $35 and family memberships start at $50. You can also join online at www.mgmoa.org/membership.
Along with yummy banana splits, members will feed their minds during an informative talk by Dr. Karl Offen, Associate Professor of Historical Geography at OU. Dr. Offen will talk about the current exhibit, Wherever You Go: Maps from the Joe Marenghi Collection. The exhibition features 500-600 year old maps. The members-only event will also feature the bluegrass music of Oklahoma artists Garland and Jennifer Blocker. Additionally, members will get a taste of what is to come at the museum for the 2011-2012 exhibition season. Finally, all will have the opportunity for some good-old socializing along with your banana splits (or maybe even root beer floats)!
The Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art is a nonprofit organization supported by its members. The museum drew over 30,000 visitors last year and worked with nearly 10,000 K-12 students. Membership is open to everyone and members receive free admission, as well as discounts on classes and workshops for adults and kids and a discount in the museum’s award-winning gift shop.
The museum is located on the campus of St. Gregory’s University, 1900 W. MacArthur St., Shawnee. For more information about this event or museum membership, please contact Tonya Ricks at email@example.com or 405-878-5604. For general information about the museum, please visit www.mgmoa.org.
