Museum Offers Creative Arts Camps for Summer
By Tourism Industry Partner
Shawnee, OK— Knights, Masks, and Sea Monsters will provide inspiration for young artists this summer at the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art’s Creative Arts Camps. The museum offers four camps for students ages 5-13 and an intensive art clinic for teens.
Each year the museum offers art camps that offer participants a summer adventure experiencing and learning arts and applications. Each of the camps concludes with an art show and reception that is open to family and friends. The camps themes are different each year. This year’s themes are:
Recycled Art (June 13-17)—students will go green and create amazing art from recycled materials with art educator Lynn Pollei.
Knights & Damsels (June 20-24)—camp participants will experience the Middle Ages, learning about medieval art and culture with art educator Lynn Pollei.
Sea Monsters & Mythological Creatures (July 11-15)—gleaning inspiration from the MGMoA’s summer exhibit of antique maps, students will create sea monsters, dragons, and other mythological creatures with artist Linda Dixon.
Mask Extravaganza (July 18-22)—with renowned mask maker Patrick Riley, students will explore a variety of mask-making techniques and learn about the mask traditions of several world cultures.
Summer camps are offered in two sessions. Students ages 5-8 attend session 1 (10am-12pm); students ages 9-13 attend session 2 (1-3pm). Advance registration is required. Camp tuition is $60 for non-members and $50 for members. Discounts are offered for multiple camp enrollments and siblings. Scholarships are available. For registration and additional information, please visit www.mgmoa.org/creative-arts-camp or call 405-878-5300.

They will be introduced to paper sculpture, embossing, and other paper art techniques. Teen art clinic tuition is $55 for non-members and $45 for members. Advanced registration is required. Discounts are offered for siblings and scholarships are available. For registration and additional information, please visit www.mgmoa.org/teen-clinic or call 405-878-5300.
