Nine Tulsa Artists Open Doors for Art Studio Tour
By Tourism Industry Partner
TULSA - The Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition’s upcoming Tulsa Art Studio Tour will open the studio doors of 9 Tulsa artists’ studios. Visitors will get a passport to experience the creative process and meet the artists in their community April 9-10 from noon until 5 p.m each day.
Art fans will find the Tulsa Art Studio Tour a rare opportunity to see artists in their working space, talk with them about their creations, as well as view and buy artwork. The tour is self-guided and presented by the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition, a statewide non-profit.
“The annual Tulsa Art Studio Tour is one of the most important art events in Tulsa,” said Janet Shipley Hawks, a Tulsa artist and co-chair of the volunteer planning committee. “It is an opportunity for the public to learn about and meet artists they may or may not have ever heard of and to see how and where they create. It is also a wonderful experience for the artist to get to share their artwork and the inspiration behind it with the public.”
The artists work in a range of artistic media including painting, printmaking, wood and more, representing a variety of stages in their art careers. Tour artists include:
· Michael Benton, wood
· Christine Sharp Crowe, printmaking
· Kim Doner, illustration
· Alan Frakes, painting
· Mark Hawley, furniture
· George Kountoupis, painting
· Steven Rosser, painting/printmaking
· Celeste Vaught, painting
· May Yang, printmaking
A preview exhibition will be on display at the Circle Cinema gallery, 12 S. Lewis, March 3-April 4. A kick-off celebration is planned for Thursday, March 10th from 5-8 pm. Visitors will have a chance to see examples of artwork from artists on the Tour, meet the artists and purchase Tour passports.
Passports to the tour include a map and are $5 in advance and $10 at the studio door. Passports are available online at www.TulsaArtStudioTour.org, or by phone at (405) 879-2400, or at any of the Tour studios the days of the Tour. Also available at ticket outlets: The Gadget Company, 104 E. 15th St; Dwelling Spaces, 119 S. Detroit Ave; and Lovetts Gallery, 6528 E 51st St. Visitors who get their passport stamped at all 9 studios during the tour dates will be registered to win a prize.
