Oklahoma City Philharmonic Announces 2012-2013 Season - Season Tickets On Sale Now
Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Philharmonic and Maestro Joel Levine are proud to present the 24th season of concerts. Highlights of the Classics Series include performances by phenominal young musicians Conrad Tao (piano) and Stefan Jackiw (violin), the percussive talents of Colin Currie, and the return of favorite, violinist Gil Shaham. The Pops Series features fantastic tributes to Michael Jackson, The Carpenters, and Cole Porter, plus the stunning feats of acrobats and musicians working together to create Cirque de la Symphonie.
Maestro Levine has planned a Classics Series filled with music that entices the senses. In September, the Orchestra begins the season with prodigy pianist Conrad Tao performing Dohnanyi's "Variations on a Nursery Song," and Liszt's "Totentanz." October brings returning favorite Gil Shaham on violin performing Brahms' "Violin Concerto in D major." November has much to be thankful for in the return of pianist Barry Douglas and his performance of Sain-Saens "Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor." January begins the new year with violinist Stefan Jackiw and the pristine visions of Beethoven's "Violin Concerto in D major." In February we welcome percussionist Colin Curie to make his OKC PHIL debut and perform the OKC PHIL premiere of Higdon's "Percussion Concerto." The talent and force of cellist Zuill Bailey begins March like a lion with Haydn's "Cello Concerto in C major." Pianist Olga Kern makes her OKC PHIL debut in April with Rachmaninoff's "Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor." And Maestro Levine wraps up the season in May with an orchestral showcase including Barber's "Adagio for Strings," Wagner's Overture to the Flying Dutchman," and Strauss' "Der Rosenkavalier Suite."
This season Executive Director Eddie Walker found amazing Pops shows and musical talent from all around the country. We kick off in November with Jack Everly's "Disco Days and Boogie Nights." In December we welcome the humor and vocal prowess of Michele Ragusa to star in Chesapeake Energy's "The Christmas Show." January brings a new year and a brand new show "The Music of Michael Jackson" starring James Delisco. In February Maestro Levine gives us the wit and magic of "The Cole Porter Songbook: Anything Goes!" In March we celebrate the youth of spring and the innocence of Karen and Richard Carpenter's lyrics with "Yesterday Once More: A Tribute to the Carpenters." Finally, we wrap the 2012-2013 Pops Series in May with the wonder and magic that are the aerialists and acrobats of the famed "Cirque de Soleil" in "Cirque de la Symphonie" complete with our own fabulous Orchestra.
