OU Choirs, Symphony Orchestra Deliver Haunting Performance
By Tourism Industry Partner
(Norman, Okla) October 17, 2011- The University of Oklahoma School of Music presents the Sutton Concert Series with a concert by the OU Symphony Orchestra at 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 31, in Sharp Concert Hall. Jonathan Shames, OU Symphony Orchestra music director will conduct the concert, featuring the OU Chorale, University Singers and OU Choral Union, Richard Zielinski and Mark Lucas, music directors.
The concert begins with the OU Symphony Orchestra performing Smetana's 'The Moldau' and Tchaikovsky's 'The Tempest' based on Shakespeare's play.
Mendelssohn's cantata 'Die erste Walpurgisnacht' will be performed in the second half of the program, by the symphony along with the OU Choirs, and features soloists Courtney Bray, mezzo-soprano; Jonathan Murphy, tenor; William Browning, baritone and Anthony Eversole, baritone.
'Die erste Walpurgisnacht' is based on a poem by Goethe, which depicts ancient Druidic worshippers masquerading as spirits and demons to thwart their oppressors, and seems to suit a Halloween concert perfectly.
All Sutton Series performances are in OU's Catlett Music Center, 500 W. Boyd, in your OU Arts District! Tickets for Norton Series events are $9 for adults and $5 for students, OU faculty/staff and senior adults. For tickets and up-to-date information call the Fine Arts Box Office at (405) 325-4101.
