Remington Park Debuts 4-Story Video Screen
By Tourism Industry Partner
OKLAHOMA CITY – Officials with Global Gaming Solutions and Remington Park unveiled a four-story, high-definition video screen this morning, further demonstrating the property’s continued renewal over the past 15 months. The screen along with several other renovations have Oklahoma’s premiere racetrack and casino ready for the opening of the American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed racing season, slated for Friday, March 4 at 6pm.
John Elliott, Global Gaming Solutions chief executive officer, said the screen brings Remington Park to the next level on the national racing scene, which has been a focus of Global Gaming RP, LLC since it acquired the track in January 2010.
“We purchased the track to bring back its much-deserved recognition both on a regional and national scale and to create a world-class entertainment venue,” said Elliott. “This high-definition screen along with all previous and future renovations, will make Remington Park a multi-faceted destination. Building the screen on the track’s infield presents numerous opportunities to host events unrelated to horse racing, ultimately, expanding our economic impact within the city and our great state.”
Manufactured by Daktronics, the two video screens combine for a total of more than 3,100 square feet of video display space with full animation capability. The main screen, including its frame, stands 47 feet tall and measures 60-feet wide, and is the largest at any North American horseracing/casino property. Another, smaller screen connects to the larger screen and measures 60-feet wide by 17-feet tall.
Scott Wells, Remington Park president and general manager, said crews have worked tirelessly throughout the winter to ensure the screen was installed and operable before the opening of Quarter Horse season.
“With two major snowstorms and numerous days of sub-zero temperatures, the construction of the board has been challenging,” said Wells. “However, we had many dedicated construction crews and track officials working diligently to ensure our patrons would be treated to this phenomenal display during Opening Weekend of Quarter Horse racing season.”
Numerous other renovations were completed since the closing of Thoroughbred season in December. Upgrades to the Clubhouse level include remodeling of the pari-mutuel windows, addition of more spectator-viewing areas, and installment of wainscoting and natural wood accents, flat-screen televisions, and trendy lounge furniture. On Track level, a new dining option featuring Mexican foods has been added. A previously vacant portion on the Casino level has been remodeled into Fortunes Suite, a multi-level suite with a private bar, dining and bistro tables along with a direct view of the racetrack and access to the gaming floor.
Remington Park celebrated its first year under Global Gaming Solutions management with a $14-million increase in pari-mutuel handle during both Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred seasons in 2010. Combined wagers on horses for the two seasons rose from $59,863,954 in 2009 to $73,935,016 in 2010.
A subsidiary of the Chickasaw Nation, Global Gaming RP LLC acquired the property on January 1, 2010, and immediately launched an aggressive 15-month renovations plan, with improvements to all aspects of the property.
Live American Quarter Horse & Mixed-Breed racing begins Friday, March 4 and continues thru Memorial Day Monday, May 30. Post times are normally at 6pm on Friday and Saturday with Thursday racing joining the schedule on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17. Sunday afternoon racing returns with the first post at 1:30pm.
