Museum Partners with ODOT to Show Science of Transportation

OKLAHOMA CITY – Science Museum Oklahoma is partnering with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to promote the science behind transportation on May 13 in celebration of their centennial. The day will include demonstrations, giant machines and hands-on experiences.

“We’re excited about this venture with Science Museum Oklahoma as part of ODOT’s 100th anniversary celebration. It couldn’t be a more fitting partnership; science and engineering are the basis of all we do at ODOT, and this is a great way to attract some of Oklahoma’s future engineers,” said Terri Angier, chief of ODOT Media and Public Relations Division.

ODOT Day happens May 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ODOT employees will be on site working with Science Museum Oklahoma staff to present the science behind everything from how roads are made, the machinery and tools that do the behind the scenes work, asphalt snacks and more. Students visiting the museum can expect discounted admission on the day of the event. A summer outreach program is set to follow that will take place through Oklahoma libraries as a continuation of the partnership between Science Museum Oklahoma and ODOT.

“This is a great chance to get some insight into something I personally take for granted every day; our roads,” said Chris Wilkerson, science programs coordinator at Science Museum Oklahoma. “They are bringing out some big machines, some tools and tricks of the trade to make this come alive for young minds, all our guests need to bring are their fun hats. This is a good example of science influencing our daily lives and couldn’t fit in better with our mission of enriching people’s lives by revealing the wonder and relevance of science.”
