Oklahoma’s official travel website includes free brochures and trip planning tools
The Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department is pleased to announce that TravelOK.com currently ranks sixth among state tourism websites according to Quantcast.com, an industry leader in media measurement service. The Tourism Department unveiled the redesigned and improved TravelOK.com in January 2010 and since then the site has climbed in the rankings from 28th to sixth. TravelOK.com is the state’s official travel planning website and includes more than 10,000 photos, 600 videos and countless planning resources for travelers.
“TravelOK.com is the source for trip planning and event information and its ease of use is evident in the strong ranking,” said Deby Snodgrass, executive director of the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department. “Travelers have 24/7 access to interactive maps, photo galleries and expert articles, plus city, event and attraction listings, and more to help plan their Oklahoma getaway.”
The Tourism Department has been working diligently to boost TravelOK.com’s rankings by implementing a combination of search engine optimization, linking strategies and paid-search tactics. The website is also the call to action used in all advertising, social media and public relations campaigns.
“Of the 50 state tourism department websites, TravelOK.com ranks second for pages per visit which tells us that our engagement is strong compared to other tourism websites,” said Snodgrass.
Last week the Tourism Department launched a special online section with road trip itineraries and summer travel tools called TravelOK.com/Roadtrips. Travelers can get inspiration from dozens of itineraries, order free travel brochures, print attraction coupons and more.
“As summer travel planning comes into full swing, we’ve seen an average of 800 visits per hour on the site for travelers seeking information on Oklahoma destinations,” said Snodgrass. “This is great news for our tourism industry partners and communities statewide since all 77 counties benefit from tourism in Oklahoma.”
Users can also interact with the site by uploading their own photos and rating or commenting on articles and destination listings.
“We want travelers to interact with us and with other travelers through the comment and rating tools on the new TravelOK.com,” said Snodgrass. “Travelers can gain valuable insight from each other beyond the information we provide.”
The Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department (OTRD) is working to advance the exceptional quality of life in Oklahoma by preserving, maintaining, and promoting our natural assets and cultural richness.
