Upcoming Events in Claremore Set

Claremore is gearing up for a very busy month as September approaches. We have a lot of great events coming into town, and will be welcoming the 2011 Oklahoma Museum Association’s annual conference September 28 through 30. Rogers State University and other area attractions will be hosting this event. We are very excited to have such a great conference coming to Claremore.
Now in its 32nd year, the Bluegrass and Chili Festival is a staple in the fall lineup for Claremore. This event will be September 8 through 10th on the grounds of the Claremore Expo Center with festivities beginning at 4 pm on Thursday and Friday, and 11 am on Saturday. There will be live music on three stages each day, fun arts and crafts for the children in the Kiddie Korral, lots of great shopping in the Festival Market, open car show, Mid-America Chili Cook-Off, and chili tasting Saturday. Another great event coming to the Claremore Expo Center is the Rogers County Fair. Closing in on 100 years, this event is sure to be a family favorite. Bring the kids out for fun with the inflatables, and the children’s barn yard where they can learn how to milk a cow and visit with a variety of baby animals. Going on throughout the weekend will also be 4H and FFA livestock shows and 4H art and craft exhibits in the Expo Hall, as well as great vendors for a little shopping. We will have live entertainment Friday and Saturday evenings beginning at 6 pm. Tyler King and Raisin Kane will take the stage Friday, and The Kristin Nicole Band wrapping up the weekend on Saturday.
For those football fanatics, come watch the Saturday games on the big screen in the VisitClaremore Beer Garden. Join us for refreshments, tailgating, and chances to win some great prizes. Admission to the fair is free! Individual tickets for the inflatables are 6 tickets for $5, or wristbands will be available for purchase, $10 for one day or $25 for a weekend pass. The Oklahoma Buckskin Association will be having its monthly show at the Claremore Expo Center September 24 and 25. There will be a variety of classes, everything from western pleasure to speed events. For more information on this event, visit their website at www.oklahomabuckskin.org. Also happening that weekend will be the Route 66 Cruisers Car and Motorcycle Show. This event will kick off Friday evening with a Cruise-Into Ne Mar Shopping Center and a BBQ dinner at Totem Pole Park after. Saturday, September 24 will be the Car and Motorcycle Show at Claremore Lake. Dwayne Caldwell, event coordinator, anticipates more than 500 cars this year.
The Rogers County Historical Society will be presenting “The Great Gatsby Gala” Saturday, September 24 from 7-10 pm at the Will Rogers Memorial Museum. Step back in time to the roaring 20s with music and dancing on the terrace, this event will feature samples of local cuisine and music from JT and the Big Band. Advance tickets are $15 single, $25 per couple and available for purchase at the Belvidere Mansion. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door for $20 single, $30 per couple.

Join the Robson Performing Arts Center for their 2012 season beginning on September 27 with Wizard of Oz. This musical is sure to entertain all ages with Dorothy, Toto, and all the favorites! Other performances included in the season are A Ride With Bob: A Bob Will’s Musical Featuring Ray Benson and Alseep at the Wheel, Miracle on 34th Street, and FLIPSIDE: A Patti Page Story. To kick off this great season, the Robson Performing Arts Center will be hosting a movie night featuring the original MGM movie, The Wizard of Oz, September 2 at 6:30 pm. This event is free to the public; seats are general admission (first come, first served). There will be a costume contest; $100 Walmart gift cards for the best Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow, and Cowardly Lion. A $100 Walmart gift card will also be given to the winner of a doggy photo contest. September 30 through October 1st the Route 66 Cruisers will be hosting their 4th Annual Car and Motorcycle Swap Meet at the Will Rogers Round Up Club.
