Yukon Hosts Freedom Fest 2011

It’s almost time for the annual Freedom Fest 2011celebration on July 3 & 4. There is something for everyone, including two nights of spectacular fireworks at 10 p.m. All events are free.
Events kick off the evening of Sunday, July 3 at the Chisholm Trail Park Gazebo, 500 W. Vandament with two free outdoor concerts. The evening is a “Tribute to Veterans.” Mike Black and the Stingrays will present a free rock and roll concert from 5 to 7:45 p.m. Irv Wagner’s Concert Band will present a patriotic brass program beginning at 8:15 p.m. A fireworks show will begin at 10 p.m. and conclude the evening’s activities.
A full day of events begin the morning of Monday, July 4 at Yukon City Park, 2200 S Holly. Events include the Freedom Fest Car Show, a children’s parade, children’s “best decorated bicycle” content, children’s crafts tents, family fun relays and games. City Splash is open for free swimming from noon to 6 p.m. The United Freestyle Stunt Team will perform daring BMX stunt shows at noon, 2 and 4 p.m.
Events shift back to the Chisholm Trail Park Gazebo at 5 p.m. with the Rodeo Opry Show from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Free watermelon and ice cream will be served at 6 p.m. on the east side of the park. A hot dog eating contest begins at 8 p.m. at the Rodeo Opry Stage.
The Freedom Fest 2011 grand finale begins at 8:30 p.m. as the Oklahoma City Philharmonic presents a wonderful concert. A giant fireworks show begins at 10 p.m.
