LibertyFest Kite Fest

Jun 29, 2013 - Jun 30, 2013
Sat 9:30am-5pm & after sundown. Lighted Night Flight: Sun 9:30am - 4pm.

The sky will be painted with hundreds of kites flown by anyone who wants to "go fly a kite." There will be team demonstrations by experienced kiters. The two-lined kites are flown in synchronized figures and patterns by three or more kiters. There will also be kiters flying four-lined kites in patterns never dreamed of by the kiters of yesteryear. KiteFest will offer kite making for even the youngest kiter and a place to fly their new kite. Candy drops from a large kite will occur several times during the day for the kids. Large bags of candy are released from a kite in the sky and the kids may scramble for their share. Several Master Class kiters will demonstrate new kites and flying techniques. Troy Gunn, a Master Class flyer from Wichita Falls, will fly two two-lined kites at the same time to a music accompanied ballet. Richard Dermer, Stillwater, Oklahoma resident and past president of the American Kitefliers Association, will be displaying miniature kites. After sundown on Saturday, the kiters will return to the park to perform a night-fly. Lights will be placed on the two-lined kites and flown together. Many have described this as an experience with UFOs. This is a "must see" especially for those who have never witnessed a night kite fly.
