Baby bighorn sheep are occasionally spotted by hikers at Black Mesa Nature Preserve, which is operated in conjunction with Black Mesa State Park in the far northwest corner of the Oklahoma panhandle.  Black Mesa is Oklahoma's highest point at 4,973 feet above sea level and features a journal at the summit for successful hikers to sign.
Juvenile elk take a midday rest together at the Black Mesa Nature Preserve, which is operated in conjunction with Black Mesa State Park.  Black Mesa is the highest point in Oklahoma and is a unique area where the Rocky Mountains meet the shortgrass prairie.
